Report: Dell to Exit HDTV Business

By the Betanews Staff | Published June 7, 2007, 11:52 AM

Dell is rumored to be exiting the HDTV business by the end of this month, a little under four years after it first entered the market to diversify its product portfolio, according to Taiwanese business newspaper Economic Daily. While the company only sells HDTVs in the US and Japan, it was not immediately clear whether the decision was part of the continuing reorganization of the company, or due to poor sales.

The Texas-based electronics maker has pulled out of other sectors in the past, including the music player business. The paper seems to indicate that founder and CEO Michael Dell played a large part in the decision. He returned to the company he founded amid declining revenues and falling market share earlier this year. Since then, the company has begun to focus on its core product: personal computers. Dell had no comment.

I never really understood the concept of buying a huge tv from an online provider, I mean if they don't offer free shipping I can't even imagine the shipping price tag. I mean I would just go to a local costco or something and drive away with one, at roughly the same price or cheaper too. Granted you do have to pay tax, perhaps that is the reason?

Wrong, Dell already denied it. Nothing more to see here.

All right all right, maybe my post was a bit harsh.

Wow.

Ask yourself why it affects you so much as to make you post this seething rant, positively dripping with hatred.

Relax, man. They did nothing to you. You don't want to look at them? Move. Take the kid to another preschool, or, better yet, simply avert thine eyes if they are so offended by such things.

That killed me. I could puke every time I see a $1200 42" ED, HDTV wannabe. I once called a preschool mom wearing Dolce & Gabanna knockoff sunglasses a fat-assed phony.

Actually PC,

Im not angry, I just love to point out the retards. This whole country and it's bling attitude is heading straight for the crapper.

I would rather live in Australia or the UK where I can cause some real damage driving on the right side of the road.

Pointing out retards is great. Ranting about them in a public forum that has little, if anything to do with them...not so much.

Besides, there are plenty of them right here to play with. :p

For Dell to get back into the Pc market they better be offering more Pc for the buck, being like in XPS Pcs stop offering like Nvidias 7300LE CRAP thats a good start

You mean like the 8800 Ultra that is currently an option for the XPS 710?

It would be nice if Dell would at least offer either an Nvidia GeForce 7600GS or a passively cooled GeForce 7600GT PCI-e graphics card without that whiny little fan that sounds like a leaf blower. I've been able to run all of my games at resolutions of 1600x1200 including Doom III in Ultra mode and they're very playable. I haven't tested any of my games at my Gateway 24-inch monitor's 1900x1200 resolution yet.
