In an exclusive deal with Russian carrier Scartel's Yota network, HTC has premiered its first GSM/WiMAX handset, indicating how rapidly the evolution of the world's communications infrastructure may be leaving the US behind.
Logically called the MAX 4G, HTC's Windows Mobile 6.1 device offers a 3.8" (800 x 400) WVGA tactile display with the company's TouchFLO 3D user interface, the UI of HTC's Touch Diamond, Pro, and HD devices.
The HTC MAX 4G is powered by a Qualcomm ESM7206A 528 MHz processor, 8 GB of storage, Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900,1800,1900, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 5 Megapixel primary and VGA secondary cameras, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and accelerometer controls.
Yota is the first Russian Mobile WiMAX network, deployed in Moscow and St. Petersburg, areas with a total population over 20 million. The total coverage area is about 1,207 KM and consists of 150 base stations in Moscow and 80 in St. Petersburg. The network operates on IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard in the 2.5-2.7 GHz frequency range, and promises speeds of up to 200 Mbps. Scartel expects the Yota network to include over 1000 base stations by the end of this year.
In addition to high-speed wireless internet, Yota's Mobile WiMAX network supports VoIP and IPTV. Yota TV already has 14 mobile TV channels, and promises a total of 23 by year's end. Additionally, the HTC MAX 4G supports TV-OUT functionality.
Foxfyre, I am Russian, I was born there and came to America with my parents when I was just 2 years old and I visit family in Russia every few years, sure some 300 year old buildings need a lot of work to keep maintained but what do you want from a 300 year old building, The YouTube Vid was to show the device, there was nothing else in the video other than the device so why would you think I am trying to say russia as a country and its economy is based on the video? Moscow today is the most expensive city in the world, if you don't believe me, try goggling "the most expensive city in the world" and see what you come up with. The majority of all Russians are well educated and hold multiple degrees (not the minority, but the MAJORITY) unlike in the USA where the majority are redneck dropouts who are poor and live paycheck to paycheck, If it wasn't for New York City, Chicago and the west coast, America would be a 3rd world country, We are just starting to see 3G become more standardized now, we saw it start in 2006 while Europe and Japan had it in 1999. Not to mention the speed of our so called high speed internet service providers here in the USA, compared with the speed of real 3rd world countries like in africa, we don't do so bad. The Dutch consider our high speed cable to be like dial up. But why is that? Can it be because we had a retard like Bush in the white house for 8 years or maybe our government even before bush gives the FCC to much control over things they can regulate? Im not sure but I do know that Russians have it tough but they are growing at a rate much faster than America can keep up with, They have very bright people with brains and they are hungry, hungry for wealth and power and the energy they put into getting what they want will surpass our lazy rednecks. don't forget the MAJORITY of russians drive Mercedes, BMWs and Lexus while the F150 pick up truck was considered best selling vehicle in the USA. (LOL freaking rednecks) Even the russians in New York are better off then most americans in their own country, Go to south Brooklyn and see how the largest Russian community outside of Russia live, They Took over and kicked out the Italian mafia from New York because they are hungrier and more ruthless, but thats besides the point, There are a lot more good hard working Russians who are opening businesses and slowly buying out south Brooklyn and making it a better place. So don't be an American who believes what the American media wants you to believe, be open minded and read up on events happening around the world, not just in your closed off America. Why don't americans listen to world music? All they know is American pop, rock, hip hop and country music. There is better music than that in the world and it is listened to every one but in America. What I am trying to say I guess is that americans have their heads too far up their asses and they can't hear what is going on around them, we live in an elusion, (well not me but) we think we are untouchable and we are the richest but we are not the americans after world war 2, we are not hungry any more and we are in fact very uneducated, we are starting to fall behind and we need to wake up and do something before we are left out in the dust (like Dukes of hazard for the rednecks of us).

|I'm Russian, too. I'm categorically not share your opinion about Russia is better than America in a new technology. In fact,a lot of music and songs Russian artists copycat from American blockbusters, not to mention that almost all Russian blockbuster movies are copycat from famous American blockbusters, etc, etc. The most difference is that "rednecks" live in democratic country comparing to Russians still living in totalitarian "Putin, Medvedev and other former and not former KGB, Communist" country. It will pass at least more then 100 years till Russia will become even a fraction what American society is now.
If you are too smart and consider yourself as a Russian patriot-don't live in America-just go to Russia to make it democratic civilized country. I'm just sick from BS like yours.
I wish your childhood would be poisoned like mine or my generation with communist propaganda!
America has better provisions to introduce new technology than any country in the world-it's undisputable fact.

|We in the US. think we are the best in the world, unfortunately we dont have 4G "Wi-Max" and we wont for quite some time. Now Im not saying Russia is better then us, the majority of Russia is poor and very depopulated BUT if you visit Moscow and St. Petersburg then you will see they are far ahead of us in technology, every 2nd car in those places is either a Mercedes or a BMW. Check out the YouTube link. Even the music Rocks.

|YouTube??? LOL! THAT is your reference????
I have visted Moscow and St. Petersburg many times! and Russia is NOT technologically more sophisticated than the US!
You only had to go to St.Petersburg and look behind the fascades covering so many of the surrounding crumbling buildings for its 300th anniversary!
The military still relies on electronics with tubes!
A fascinating culture, but they are NO where near the west in the proliferation of technology!
Find a better source of information than YouTube!

|when russia is now ahead of the US when it comes to consumer electronics, that really begs some serious questions to the current US cell phone carriers...

|Consumer electronics? Because a consumer uses a telephone does not make a telcos 'consumer electronics'!
So now AT&T is a consumer electronics company, huh? Fascinating concept...
Yup, where you lack competing companies, and where there is no mature network already in place, its a bit easier to build a ubiquitous network with the latest technolgy developed in the US!
As far as whether the telephone service in Russia better than the US? LOL!
Visit and tell me which experience is better overall!
LOL!

|It amazes me to think that someone seriously thinks that Russia has a superior fundamental infrastructure to the US.
But then, it also amazes me that one can think that Russia's consumer electronics industry rivals anyone's! Yup, they ae a major consumer electronics exporter. If we can only think of one product!
Even with WiMax - they are an importer of foreign technology! They are innovating nothing and simply employing one technology among the MANY that are competing for marketshare in the foreign markets.
It must be nice to have such a simplistic world view.

|This is great for the WiMAX in general but looks like us in US might have to wait a while or maybe wait for other WiMAX handsets from other manufacturers.
