Second World of Warcraft expansion released

Blizzard Entertaiment today has released the second expansion pack for its indomitable World of Warcraft massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Naturally, it's an excuse to throw a big party.
Called Wrath of the Lich King, the game pack adds new zones, dungeons, skills and abilities to the nearly five-year old World of Warcraft realm. Last year, Blizzard announced that the game had more players than the entire population of New York City after the first expansion pack Burning Crusade, was released. In a single month, it sold 3.5 million copies.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is available in North America, Europe, Russia, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile today for Windows XP/Vista and Mac with a retail price of $39.99, and will come to stores tomorrow in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau will get the title on November 18.
Blizzard threw midnight launch parties at four locations, two in California, one in New York, and one in Texas. In the OC Register's Blizzard Blog, blogger Joe Simmons reported the Anaheim midnight launch had an "insanely long" line of more than 1,000 people.
There were launch events in Amsterdam, Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Mexico City, Taipei, Seoul, and London as well. Apparently the WoW frenzy was going on in London also, as UK newspaper The Guardian reported the line outside of the downtown HMV stretched more than 2,500 fans in length.
I don't understand. Computer gaming did more to fuel the computer revolution than any 'work' related cause. We are all chatting up in BetaNews about a computer game played on the internet and yet we can find no common ground? I make a living (good one. how much=none of your business), have no tattos, smoke no pot (now), and remember Kennedy being shot. I play WOW on a regular basis with my kid and we have a great time. Play or don't play but if you have never played (for more than a few hours) then you really don't have an opinion. In any event: 'can't we all just get along'?
Score: 0
Heh..
You *must* be new here.. ;)
...and don't take it as not getting along. We get on pretty well here, all things considered. Sure, we insult each other, toss barbs back and forth, but I really don't think anyone here is self-conscious enough to actually care what anyone else here says or thinks to the point where they would actually be considered a friend or enemy.
..except for Zaine. He loves me. Totally obsessed. I keep telling him I don't swing that way, but... ;)

I worked that launch. I saw a wrist band numbered 1600 with hundreds more to go. There were at least 2000 people there.
Hollywood__ spewed
"
You are oficially a loser. "
And being entertained by pretending others are inferior to you makes you feel superior. That qualifies as a loser. Much like people that watch Cops, America's Most Vile Home Videos, and Jerry Springer.
Hollywood has winners and losers. The winners are busy working. The losers are busy searching for people to look down on.

another +1 for population control... No one should really have reason to complain about WoW players, it's voluntary population control, well unless you lose a family or loved one to it...
What is a weakness to one segment of society presents opportunity's to others that rise above it.
I happily don't play, but own plenty of stock in Blizzard! Lov'n it!

I love the people defending WoW. They think they are some special breed of gamer.
Countless hundreds of hours every month wasted by the typical player of this abortion of a game. I don't know one person who plays for a couple hours a week.
You are oficially a loser. I wonder how many hardcore adult WoW players smoke dope and have tatoos, the three I know all do. Lazy ****ers.

Just because you know a few losers doesn't mean you know them all.
I'm glad you think the game sucks. You are entitled to your opinion.
No-where did I imply in any way I was a "special breed of gamer", nor do I smoke dope or have tatts.
I guess that kinda blows a few holes in your theory doesn't it?
Guess you aren't as smart as you think you are...

How many of those folks drive Honda Accords?
I guess those cars are only for lazy no-lifers.
I wonder how many of them shop at wal-mart? Must be only lazy, no-lifers who shop there.
Your line of reasoning, good sir, is absolute elitist Bulls***. Not surprising in the least, considering the vast majority of your posts are, but I just thought you should know.

What a bunch of whiny cry-babies.
Oh, everyone who plays WoW must be a loser...
What a waste of time...
...and yet here you are, all wasting time posting about it. How cute.
Believe it or not, it is possible to play this game without losing your job, friends, family, or social life.
I'll be the first to admit the blizzard servers suck. Of course, that's why the mod community has brought forth a plethora of private servers offering a much wider variety of play. ...without the monthly charge, to boot.
Played retail for about a year. Been playing private servers for a little over 2 now. Spend about 8-10 hours a week (mostly on weekends) playing. Costs a hell of a lot less than the latest shooters and can be enjoyed *much* longer.
WotLK will be supported on most private servers by the end of Nov.

Uh, woohoo?
Posting about it, however, takes farrrr less time than the time needed to beat, or I mean get to level 70 (or is it 80 or 90 now?).

Only when playing on private servers, otherwise its more expensive.

Why even bother with that?
If you're so against wasting time...
BTW: It's 80 with WotLK...254 on the private server I'm on though.

LOL are you serious!
I played this game for a while.. now its full of adolesent kids and is no longer worth time of day. That coupled with the ever growing advantage the horde has over the alliance; for this reason it will only take time before the game self destructs.

The original WoW box is not free, has never been free, and will probably never be free. Its $19.99 at most retail establishments. Blizzard isn't CCP, they don't give ANYTHING away. I used to be a casual player, mostly because a couple friends got into it, but the latency got impossibly high. I'm stuck with GSM but a year ago I could play without much trouble, and lag spikes were temporary. Not any more. And how many servers did they add for WOTLK's release? One. This server is special because you can transfer you accounts to it for free. That's right..they constantly encourage character moves to lower population servers, but want to charge *you* $20 for what amounts to helping them balance their network load. They spend more effort on card games, stuffed animals, T-shirts, books and god knows what else than they do on supporting their games. The Starcraft III multiple release scam is the latest insult to their customers and reveals a company that's gotten too big and self-important for its own good.
