Sega Gives Up Dreamcast for Set-top Venture

Sega, in conjunction with PACE Micro Technology of Great Britain, has unveiled the first look at its new set-top box. The box, according to GameSpot UK, will be fully compatible with existing Dreamcast titles and build on Dreamcast architecture. It also features a high capacity hard drive and broadband capabilities. Sega just recently decided to halt production of the Dreamcast due to lagging sales and high costs. For more information, and to see a picture of the console, visit GameSpot UK.
While it may be "compatible" with existing dreamcast titles, the latest reports on the unit say that it will not include any type of GD-ROM/CD-ROM player. And you will download the games. I dont know about you but it seems like a huge waste to me. Especially for those of us who already have the games. While they will be creating "episodic" style games for the Set-top, it should have a GD-ROM. Especially considering the $500-$600+ pricetag. So does beta-news actually have quality reporting anymore?
