In game ad's have been around for a long time. It's called product placement. It happens on TV in movies, games..... It includes just about everthing from cars, watches, soft drinks, condoments, and yes even music. $50-$60 for a game? How much would games cost if companies didn't place their products in this manner?

With the PlayStation 3 not generating the revenue Sony expected, it now appears that the company is looking at in-game advertising to turn its gaming division around.

I would have thought that better games would have turned their gaming division around... silly me. *sigh*

Enough with all of this advertising crap. It isn't enough that we should be expected to pay upwards of $60 for a game, only to be bombarded with advertisements within? I would expect something of that nature if the game was free, but this is getting ridiculous.

Why not simply follow Microsoft's lead in the games department if they want to honestly turn things around. Let's have some good games for a change, and let's see what this all-mighty PS3 can really do! C'mon... it's almost been a year already!

This particular news surfaced in July when it was announced Nielsen would be tracking the users, paving the way for advertising.
Sony’s previous advertising announcements were relating to their MMORPG's and not specifically ps3/psnetwork
So this news is news as such and something to read.

The Ads in GTA made by game developers but Sony In-game ad division made by Sony. It cannot be blend into game.

I think it would be like ad in TV. Some text at bottom of your screen with small images. This type of ad not cover all your screen so you can playing game and watching ad same time.

Now not only do you get better online and achievements on the Xbox 360, you also don't have to worry about in-game ads. Or worry about making my t!ts bigger. The point is that Sony is desperate for money, so they are looking at ways to save them, the xbox the ads will blend in with the environment, so its not really an issue. Apparently, you have a hard time reading. I said because MS already stated it will blend in with the games. Sony has not proven itself and has been looking for any means to save themselves from sinking. I believe that because of the aforementioned Sony issues, they will bombard the user with ads in a way that slows down gameplay and broadcasts before the gameplay.

Its the game developers that choose to put ingame ads in their games, not the company producing the console.

1. I do not own a Xbox360 (but I do prefer the system and the games it has)
2. I like OSX and Windows

That picture shows one game, there is no mention of Xbox Live and it blends in with the environment, if anything it makes the game more lifelike.

They have had "ads" in games for years and years just they weren't real companies.

I like PGR as Xbox is trying to appeal to a wider demographic on music, I may be a bit bias though on the game as my friend is on the soundtrack.

If the In game ads actually related to the games environment (like in Madden) it would be kinda acceptable. Just don't make it look so damn obvious.

Ignoring the tiresome Xbox vs PS3 vs Wii crap on this topic, I'd like to say that I don't like Adverts in Gaming generally. I play games as an escape from the real world, somewhere I can go to have fun and escape the already huge commercial pressures just about everywhere you turn. Adverts in games would merely serve to remind me, whether pop-up or subtle livery on a racing car, that the real world exists, diminshing the effect of playing the game.

The stick of gum - Airwaves, was it? - in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was bad enough. It annoyed me that a character I was controlling and basically becoming in order to complete the game was trying to sell me things. The last thing I want is for this type of thing to become more common.

Just tell me which games the ads will be in and I'll be sure to avoid them. Thanks.
