Sony Debuts Tiny USB Drive

Sony on Tuesday introduced one of the smallest USB drives on the market Tuesday, launching the Micro Vault Tiny drive in capacities ranging from 256MB to 4GB. The drive measures about a half-inch wide and just over an inch long. The Micro Vault Tiny is color-coded to allow the user to easily identify its capacity.
The Tiny is no thicker than a quarter, Sony said. A clip-on case for the USB drive would be provided to enable the drive to attach to just about anything. It also comes with an application called Virtual Expander, which would automatically compress data and enable the device to store up to three times its size in data.
"In line with our Micro Vault concept, the Tiny is designed to deliver a user-friendly storage solution that appeals to fashion-forward consumers ranging from trend-setting students to style-conscious professionals," said Mike Lucas, director of marketing for Sony Electronics' Media and Application Solutions Division.
Lucas also said that the market for these USB drives continue to grow, as they become as ubiquitous as digital cameras and MP3 players. He credits this to their versatility and ease of use.
The Micro Vault Tiny will come in five capacities: 256MB in orange, 512MB in violet, 1GB in blue, 2GB in green and 4GB in purple. The drives are available immediately and priced from $29.99 to $199.99 USD.
so apparently pqi's intelligent sticks dont exist huh? cause they came out with ones those excact shape and size like a year ago or more. and for 30 bucks on newegg you can get a 512mb one, and 62 for a gig. i think sony needs to fix their pricing, and ugly colors..
EDIT: oh i missed the "one of the" part....

|Does it come with a free rootkit and special features to prevent you from copying data? And this "Virtual expander", is that for Solaris, Linux, MacOSX, OS/2, PS2, HPUx, windows?
Tsj, an expensive brand name for such a commodity. Sony should start making branded expensive bread.

|Yup. It's a Sony: always overpriced. Just like Apple's products.
But I won't say it's ugly though. It's a "non-looker."

Since 4GB is the largest capacity they're offering, I'd say it's safe to assume that it will cost $199.99. =)

|As already mentioned, I would lose or end up washing it in the laundry(as I had already did once. But the drive still worked afterwards.) Anyway, when will the memory implants begin?

|This sure is expensive and I don't think it's a great idea anyone. Small items like this can be easily misplace.

And I thought my security badge made me look cool. I've gotta get one of these, I'll be the talk of the office.

And they're definately not cheap. I can get a 1GB stick for $35. They're selling a 256MB for nearly that, for something that looks like it could be *very* easily misplaced.
