Sony Debuts iMac-Like Integrated PC

Possibly looking to compete with the Apple iMac, Sony on Tuesday introduced an all-in-one unit that merges an LCD television with a desktop PC to conserve space. The unit includes a 19-inch widescreen display, with the computer's internals behind the monitor much like Apple's bestselling desktop computer.
The Sony VAIO LS1 is powered by an Intel Core Duo processor. It also includes 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, built in wireless 802.11b/g and the capability to watch and record television. The PC is Windows Vista Premium ready, Sony said, and will ship with Windows XP Media Center Edition.
"The LS1 model is a testament to our design and engineering prowess incorporating all the power of a desktop into a showpiece design," said Mike Abary, vice president of VAIO product marketing at Sony Electronics in the United States.
Sony has also included other features with the unit, such as an audio/video quick resume switch that allows the user to only shut down the display and audio without having to put the computer in sleep mode, as well as an integrated camera and microphone.
Sony said that the VAIO LS1 is scheduled to be available in retail stores and online by mid-September. The price is expected to be around $2,100 USD.

Sony have had integrated systems like this for years.... This article is midleading as it leads people to believe that Sony just came out with this now "to compete with the Apple iMac". And as usual Sony is even more expensive than Apple. :-)

Yeah. I can see the text right next to SONY, on the face plate. SONY/RootKit. :P

Pst. Sony/BMG doesn't sell computers.

As if Sony is the first company to do this? Dell, Gateway, and HP have been doing this forever. My school uses Gateways that have the entire computer tucked behind the LCD monitor. The whole thing isn't much larger than an average LCD actually.

Indeed. Original Macintosh, anyone? :P
