TiVo HD 'Fully Stocked' at Retailers

TiVo said Wednesday that its new lower-cost high-definition DVR is now available at retailers across the United States after being announced in late July. The $299 TiVo HD sports much of the same feature set found in TiVo's high-end $799 Series3.
The company says TiVo HD is arriving as many consumers are looking to upgrade their television setups to high-definition. TiVo did not say when it plans to activate the TiVoToGo portability features for either HD model, but news on that front is expected sometime in the near future. TiVo service costs $16.95 per month on a 1-year basis, or $12.95 per month with a 3-year contract.

Would like to see what features are different. Space for recordings is one, but what else?

|The other differences other than hard drive:
front doesn't show what's being recorded
front doesn't have all the buttons the 799 has
the remote is different
different chip is used to en/decode the mpeg4/2
different motherboard, I believe
not THX-certified (probably the biggest cost)
the hack for eSATA connector doesn't work

|Well my current model TiVo doesn't have a front panel display or buttons, I'm using a Harmony 880 remote, so the only issues I need to look into are the MPeg and eSATA Connector.
Thanks for the heads up.

|I'd really like to see Tivo and DirecTV kiss and makeup. This would really be awesome instead of the DirecTV HD DVR.

|They've been caught hugging.
