One of the most best thing made by men is the USA Constitution. It's brilliant because it's like a mirror, reflecting the wishes of all men in the world, since Genesis. Since Genesis we fight for freedom; we born fighting by light. I'm not talking about politicals, I'm talking about MEN.

Guys...seriously. This thread has completely been taken off track. Conspiracy theories, domestic spying, political and social issues aside, the USA is still the most technically qualified nation to manage the Internet. If net neutrality ends up not being supported then a significant amount of control will siphon down to a corporate level, however with the majority of backbones in the US it is still US corporations that have the most to gain or lose. Same is such that if departmental control is taken from the US government, they have the most to gain by keeping it and lose by losing it. The UN has proven its over all incompetence time and again, but that aside, any organization that would permit input from countries like china, that seem only satisfied to censer the lives of all people, such a switch can not be permitted. The situation is delicate, however the US government only lasts 4-8 years which I would guess is a undertone to the yearly renewal idea. This is definitely a wait and see situation.

It's not ICANN or any other technically responsible group that controls anything like the so-called "internet". It's not even commercial groups who control it. The real control is in those hands who control the ideas in the heads of human being - those who initiate the thoughts and ideas, those who make the rules of human worths. Governments just follow these and make their laws and politics accordingly. So, in reality, it doesn't really matter which national or international government has "control". It's philosophy that has always ruled mankind - socialists, evolutionists, liberals, constitutionalists, communists, democrats, nazis, whatever name you may name, they all rely on man's eagerness and hunger for the better and deceive the masses in believing that their ideas are able to change human nature. So this can only be about the maximum win of money, the maximum ego-win, anyway.

Do you really think any nation on this planet is better than the other? Poor belief, proved wrong by thousands of years of human history.

Trust whomever you want, whatever side you want, whatever nation or institution you want - but be as surely prepared for disillusion, disappointment and letdown as for the next winter.

So - who cares about this news . . . anyway . . .

I'd rather see an International group of scientists leading the Internet, like a specially formed, independent group at CERN. I'd trust a group of scientists much more so than a group of politicians.

Ultimately, we need to create a new Domain Name Service. The ICANNs power is mostly derived from the hierarchical structure of the original 70s technology behind our current DNS system.

Scientists are part of the thought "makers" of today, who have laid the hugest assembly of deadly weapons ever in the hands of mankind - so, trust them who wants, not me.

Simply put, if the other countries don't like who has control of the internet, let them make their own and see what happens. We made it, we ran it, it's ours. We ALLOW you other countries to be a part of it. What rights do you have for even TRYING to take control? If the internet was land, this would be called a war.

why is there still even a UN to interfere with anything? isn't it widely known the UN has done nothing right --- completely incompetent.. it would destroy the internet

It's ran well this long under US control, why fight for it? Cause there jealous? I mean we don't disseminate on what country your in, but if some one else does who the hell knows what will happen? Take something everyone uses day-to-day and turn it into a way to tax...net neutrality goes out the window also.

I live in the US, but if the Europe or Asia made it first and it has been like it has I'd say keep it and keep it going :)

Net neutrality doesn't relate to internet supervision.
It's a ISP matter, so it is decided at a country level.
In Europe there is no net neutrality debate, it just seems plain logical to us that any content must be carried equaly.
But the competition between ISP is furious (for instance there must be at least 5 high speed offer in any city in France).

And if you want to know why many country want an international supervision, it's because they mistrust the US Governement.
They fear It has it own agenda, they fear that it will make something stupid because a stupid lobby has thrown enough money ...
There is a widespread distrust of USA and I think it deserves a lot better response than "They're jealous".

The EU is the new URSS. Socialists neo-communist '68s people are so anti-USA and anti-Right Wing that would do anything to attack the US.
The problem lies within the EU which is driven by the worst burocrats in history, on par with Nazis, which the socialists are cousins of.
These dangerous guys are always claiming silly things like "peace and love" since the '60s to fool a gullable population into believing what they want in order to get more powerful. The war in Iraq, France and Germany were with China and the muslim regimes in order to protect their own money interest in the area, weapons and oil. And what did they do ? They attacked the Bush Administration telling that it was the Bush family that had oil interests in the area.. and the UN did even worse with Annan involved in dirty money flowing...

So, no thanks, giving Internet control to these people controlling the EU and the UN would be the same as giving it to China and its communistic regime or directly to muslim terrorists and their regimes.
