Vongo Video Downloads to Support More Media Center Devices

By Tim Conneally | Published October 25, 2007, 4:07 PM

In response to what its parent company today called the top request voiced by its "passionate customer base," video download service Vongo announced today the 2.0 revision of its software, which now supports more Windows Media Center Extenders.

Vongo previously supported only two Windows Media Center 2 devices: the Toshiba Gigabeat S and V series. It has now more than tripled that lineup with the addition of the Archos 405 and 605WiFi, the Creative ZEN, the award-winning ZEN Vision: M, and ZEN Vision: W.

With new products from D-Link, Linksys, and Niveus coming to the market, Vongo 2.0 will offer more options in wireless connectivity, including supporting streaming video from a Vista- or XP-based PC to the TV.

The software's Personalized Recommendation Engine was also improved, which the company says will make it easier for users to find user-appropriate content. Device management received an improvement as well.

With the increasing number of devices being supported, including the Xbox 360 which was added earlier this year, Vongo is at last beginning to look like a good deal at $9.99 a month.

Right now, it's looking to me as if Vongo should have done a bit more beta testing before releasing this new client. As I type, I can only install Vongo on my laptop...my HTPC won't run the new Vongo client, and Customer Service has thus far been unable to resolve the problem. I'm hoping their technical support gurus will come up with an answer soon, though.

Anyone have the phone #s or Email for Vongo Tech Support?

The new version is a nightmare.

Two installs, one crashes before launching on Vista 64, the other loads properly but keeps saying 'account name' is already used, select another name even though it is the 'login' and not 'new user' page.

There is no way to get to support or any information of who to contact if you can't even login.
