WOW Upgrade Sets US, EU Sales Records

World of Warcraft fans turned out in full force last week to purchase The Burning Crusade, the expansion for World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment said Tuesday. In the first 24 hours of availability, nearly 2.4 million copies were sold. This made the title the fastest selling PC game in history in both North America and Europe. Nearly 1.2 million copies were sold in North America, while more than 1.1 million were sold in Europe.
The title's success has even surprised Blizzard, which said sales have exceeded expectations. The company added that reports show demand continues to be steady, and advised prospective buyers to call ahead to ensure availability. Approximately 8 million individuals play World of Warcraft, making it the largest MMORPG in PC-gaming history.
Well, at least this means Blizzard is less likely to release a new game anytime soon. Let them keep milking MMO suckers for another few years.

|Its not any more of a "waste of time" than anything else in life. Such as your sitting in front of your TV for hours every day watching worthless crap.
You might as well do what you enjoy doing. There are far worse things in life, and I'm positive it keeps many people occupied and out of trouble.
I get so sick of the comments telling people to stay away.

|Hi, I am a Software Engineering undergrad. I used to be addicted to WoW during my first year of university. For that period, in two terms I had four Cs, five Ds and one A.
After seeing my disastrous results, I decided to take action and not only uninstall WoW from my computer but also to completly remove video games from my life. If I told you that in the last two terms I achieved six As and four Bs, you probably would not believe it, but that is the truth.

|Congrats to the thousands of WoW players who are wasting their lives away on a fantasy game... and yes I used to be one of them. This game will suck the life right out of you, take care if you choose to play it :P

|Still haven't played it.
Started playing Rappelz (Free MMORPG) during the release of the WoW patch intending to get right back in once the frenzy passed, but now I'm not so sure.
Rappelz might be enough to get me by...and ya can't beat the price.

|My suggestion: Don't play it. Not even the 10 day trial. Some people can handle it, I couldn't (or wouldn't). As I've said, I have an addictive personality, not to say I physically was unable to refuse the game...well the point is it is harder to do than I would have ever imagined.
It costs monthly and if I'd saved all the money I spent on that game I would be about $350 richer is all.

|Sorry.
I have played it. Was playing it right up until about 1 week before the update was released.
I meant I haven't played the update yet. Sorry for the confusion.
I can handle the $15 a month, but Rappelz actually has my interest piqued. They have some server issues now and again (Hey, they're free) but the gameplay is decent.
Didn't realize how much I missed the days when playing in an MMORPG (aka MUD) didn't involve knitting or sewing. :p

|I don't remember MUD ever requiring knitting skills. ;)
Although one could web-browse a little!

|Wow Rappelz actually looks quite good, didn't expect much seeing as its free... will have to download it soon!

|My point exactly. Didn't realize how much I missed those days.

|It shocked me as well at first.
..then I realized they sell special "items" for use in-game. The shock wore off a bit. :p
Still a decent game...considering the cost.
