Let's see. My playstation stopped working a few years ago. No worries, though, because I got a playstation 2 to replace it, and the ps2 is backward compatible. Now that doesn't work! Not only that, but it has gauged deep scratches in several of my disks. Sony doesn't seem to care.

My Super Nintendo is still going strong, purchased in 1991. Works like the day I bought it.

I won't be buying a playstation 3, ever. But I look forward to purchasing a Nintendo Wii!

I own a PS3 which I bought in DEC 06. I can honestly say I wish I bought and XBOX360. Not only are there many more games (which is to be expected) but the games for the XBOX 360 have TONS more features, and options. Call of Duty 3 for PS3 has no voice chat, no new levels, and is no longer supported by the developer. XBOX360 version has voice chat(which is available on every game) continues to get multiplayer maps and is supported. Sorry to say it, but unless SONY gets off their a** then I'll be buying an XBOX. Sony just doesnt listen to it's customers

Come back and tell us if you still feel that, when the 360 versions of games are inferor due to the DVD drive and crappy CPU, or your on your 3rd replacement console in as many months...

Maybe I will be back, maybe if I do buy an XBOX it lasts 3 days then breaks, who knows. But I can guarantee you one thing. In all seriousness, though -- and trolls aside -- I feel your pain, GoD_tattoo. I personally don't have anything against PS3. I dislike Sony's attitude and the PS3's price tag, however. I just own a 360 at the moment, but I honestly hope PS3 gets a respectable library of games. And I'm sure they will in due time.

That's what i'm waiting for. Hopefully Sony will pull their head out from where it is, and start supporting the PS3. Hopefully Game makers will also start listening to their PS3 customers, but until they do, the PS3 isn't even close to the XBOX 360. All Sony fanboys hate nexgenwars because they show MS with 11 million consoles sold. Not for the fact that all the numbers are wrong, including Sony's. And the Wii numbers are way off.

All I can say is "I Love My Wii", and play it 2 to 3 hours a day minimum. It has totally got my kid off watching TV. And most of the time we're playing the packaged game that came with it (Wii Sports). And in the coming months with more and more games coming out, it will get a LOT better. Existing games moving to the Wii platform are pretty cool also. If you haven't tried Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, give it a whirl. Also, if you want to check out one game coming out around the November/December time frame, check out 'Super Mario Galaxy (http://wii.ign.com/objects/748/748588.html)'. This game is supposed to be the end all (at least of Mario Games). I know, Super Mario Sunshine sucked for the GameCube. . . . but this game will be a whole new experience. I've played all the consoles Nintendo has come out with since I was a kid. And this definately (by 10000000000000000%) beats them all. So if you haven't got one yet, go get one (or try to find one). It's definately worth the money. And my 2 cents about Sony, I have a PSP and a PS2, and I love them also (I play the PSP all the time, the PS2 is sitting idle since I got the Wii). But the PS3 (in my opionion) is overpriced. Yeah it might look good (actually the non video demos I've seen are okay), but I don't think it is worth the money at all. The engineers should have thought about that when they where designing it. Nintendo came out with a kick butt product that doesn't cost $600+

Nice Try.. I seem to recal several 360 exclusives now coming to PS3.. Along with the GTA IV "exclusive" content (PS3 has it's own exclusive, but different exclusive content).

Still I wouldn't worry, as GTA IV will suck on the 360, as developers are having a hard time getting it working on the 360, as they have to cater for the limitations of the 360 core with no HDD..

Unrelated, but I thought it was funny that you mention the bit about the consoles becoming too advanced to code for. That ultimately led to the Sega Saturn's demise (awesome hardware specs for its time... a little too awesome). No one wanted to code for it... not even Sega's own development teams.

And yes, their (lack of) marketing didn't help either, but their marketing has always sucked, but that didn't stop the success of their other consoles.

For Sony to Catch Nintendo, they'd now have to outsell them almost 3:1 or better in almost every month. That's an incredible volume, I just don't see how they can do this.

Things at Sony have to be bleak. Put aside fanboi attitudes. Sony LOSES money on every console they sell. Nintendo MAKES MONEY on every console they sell. Nintendo now has an installed user base roughly SEVEN times Sony's worldwide.

So, if you're a game developer, and you've got a console that has a high sell through rate and an installed user base that is buying more titles. Game developers are flocking to the Wii, and it now has a fast growing planned release base, andd committed third parties. Why? because the games SELL well.

Of the top 10 selling titles on all platforms, Nintendo has SEVEN of them. (Pokemon Pearl & Diamond, Super Paper Mario, Wii Play, Legend of Zelda Wii, etc.)

And their titles are cheaper to manufacture and distribute, which means 3rd parties make more money.

Forget "Best" Hell, I owned a Sega Game Gear. Clearly better then the Nintendo Gameboy at the time. It was color. Game boy was not. It had fast moving games. Game boy did not. Did it win the market? Nope. Because there weren't enough titles or support.

There's one positive site to all this. Since Sony is losing money hand over fist, it's actually a good thing the PS3 is not selling so well. The less PS3 are sold, the less money Sony loses. It's a win-win.

The fact is, the PS3 is still selling better than the 360 in it's infancy, and the 360 sales were over the holiday period..

Come October - December is when the PS3 sales will really hot up, with some great games and a holiday season where the Wii and 360 are last years news...

Developers (you know the people who make the games) state its a lot easier to program xbox then it is for playstation as the hardware is more advanced but is grossly underutilized again the same problem 3D0, Jaguar, Dreamcast, Turbographix etcetc had.

The 360 is already starting to show it's limits, with a underwhelming Halo3. Face it, Gears Of War is about as far as the 360 is going to go, it's limited by DVD size and graphics/cpu capabilities. The 360 core is also crippling it. Even Rockstar are having problems getting GTA IV working properly on the 360..

In your little country, perhaps it was launched before Xmas. The rest of the world has yet to see a Xmas PS3 sales period..

I have one of thier (Sony's) DVD camcorders, it's freaking awsome. 36 inch HD CRT tube, again awsome. Actually I dont think there is a better CRT TV than Sony.

But when it comes to BD and the PS3, I feel HD-DVD is better and the 360 flat out has better games and a lot more of them.

Their car audio is probably the worst, most distorted garbage out there and their A/V receivers are crap too.

Anyway I am with you there. I don't hate Sony. Just the people who support them. I argue against Blu-Ray and the PS3 because I feel the other products are a better buy. PS3s biggest downfall is the fact that they can't match Xbox Live. I don't think this new virtual interface is going to put them there either. Also as much as the Sony fanboys don't want to admit it the 360 has the games this time around and it is highly unlikely that this is going to change. Then my absolute biggest gripe of all is I do not like their controller at all. It is too cramped for me. I can't stand the way they put both joysticks side by side. I had high hopes that they would change it for the better this round, but they decided to stick with the same ole controller(again). The reason I know that I despise the controller so much is because I have used the sh** out of it. I had a playstation and a plastation 2, which go figure had the exact same controller!
I also plan on picking up a Wii this summer for 2 reasons. 1. it's cheap and 2. it has an interesting controller design.

Here's the known facts:

In April, both Nintendo and Sony reported their company financial results to the Japanese economic exchange.

Nintendo had a 77% rise in profits. It noted 5.84 Million units sold through of the Wii in this year (07) and that the DS has now sold FORT MILLION units worldwide.

Nintendo through out another bombshell: 29 Million Wii licensed games sold.

Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal have raised the right point: the PS3 has deeper problems because even in markets that it's fairing well in, it's not as meaningful.

For example, it's good that it sold 5,000 more units then the XBOX in Germany, but with violent games banned in that country, ancillary rights aren't as valuable (and 15,000 units sold is a drop in the bucket compared to continual spenders in the US / Japan)

They raise the bigger issue: developing for the PS3 is far more expensive then developing for XBOX360 (which uses a semi-standard API, basically a modified DirectX from PC) or Wii (with it's far cheaper development kit). So, with game development more expensive and a significantly smaller installed base, and more expensive production costs, developers are having more issues putting out titles.

End result: at this point Wii and XBOX360 have far more titles announced for this year then PS3. For pete sake, Electronic Arts, feeling burned by PS3, announced a whole array of Wii products in order to get a go-ahead on their stock, and games that were supposed to be Sony exclusives now aren't.

Yes, it's only been out for 2 months in some parts of the world, let's say.. Germany. Tell me, how valuable are those 34,000 total sales to this point (which yes, outpaces many) in comparison to the fact that in the US, they sell more then double that, are still in last place.. and oh yeah, this is a country where third party titles like GTA/FEAR/etc. can be sold, when they can't even be imported there.

Nintendo and others have an easier path in places like Germany, where it's unlikely there will be a government ban for violence on say, Super Paper Mario...

The fact Sony is losing exclusive after exclusive should tell you that the people who make games (because it is a game machine afterall) are jumping ship.

Yes the PS3 is far more powerful but remember Dreamcast? 3D0? Neo-Geo? Jaguar? All were far more powerful then what was available but because it was missing games and exclusives and high priced they all died.

Until Sony can either cut the price or give reason why someone should pay this amount for their system they are on a sinking ship no matter how you look at it.

The only reason I want a ps3 is for ff13 if it moves to xbox I'll be done with playstation.

Sony has really fallen over the past few years, their LCD's don't last as long, PS2 & PS3 are overpriced and just aren't worth the $$ and their laptops catch fire.

Sales in Japan are even worse for the PS3. Here are the recent Japan sales numbers for "Golden Week" (four holidays close together) in Japan, which is traditionally going strong in sales as people have lots of free time:

You got that right. There is no one more opinionated than me. The difference is I work with all of these products for a living, so I get to see which one is actually better based on experience.

All of my opinions are objectively based and not just fanboy crap because I decided I was in the HD-DVD or PS3 camp.

The difference between me and people like Steve, Dave, and a few others here are I have actually seen, tried, and own competing consoles and formats. There are differences and HD-DVD is clearly better when it comes to picture (which is all that matters).

I would like to see some wicked games come out for the PS3 that are head and shoulders better than the 360 versions because it almost seems like the PS3 doesnt lag at all where the 360 slows down like the old SNES console when there was too much going on at once.

It's just too bad that the hot topics are consoles and next generation DVD players. I would love to talk about things like home automation, touch panels, matrix switchers, movie / music servers etc....

The Wii is definitely a family console that everyone can play, together. The 360 and PS3 are marketed to angry loaners with no social life after they get off work from the local 10 minute oil change place.

Dare I say... +1?! I absolutely feel that way. It seems every "next gen" release brings us much of the same, just with better graphics or maybe five times as long.

It - really - bores - me. So much so I just don't buy consoles anymore, and I rarely play PC games. I've done it all before, nothing changed.

The Wii ,though, it has a unique idea. A little bit "out there", a bit different. It seems family fun. And it just makes gameplay seem.. new.

Considering the price gap, I think its getting ridiculous comparing the Wii to either the 360 or the PS3.

Its like comparing sales of the PSP to the 360 or something. The Wii has a completely different function and really targets a different audience. For the hardcore or serious gamer, 360 or PS3 is what they will have. They may own a Wii too, but it won't be their main rig.

But it shows what people desire.

Fun and games, not some expensive home entertainment unit that does everything but the dishes.

Agreed. To say that the Wii targets a different audience is absurd. Its targeted to gamers, first of all, not "casual" gamers or "hardcore" gamers, gamers at large. Once again Nintendo proves its the top dog on the gaming industry.

I believe, if anything, it shows that more people are willing to buy consoles for their families that have the type of games the Wii features.

It is more family oriented and thus appeals to a larger base. The PS3 and 360 fill a more "hardcore" gaming niche which has a much smaller (but definitely more fervent) base.

You might be right - anyone who refers to their game console as a "rig" definitely wouldn't be caught with a Wii as their one-and-only. But to be honest I don't know anyone with a "rig." Overall, I think a Wii is priced right and appeals to a wide audience which is reflected nicely in the sales totals.
