Thanks! Not only did the link work, the service pack install without a problem. Although it did take 45 minutes on laptop. Kinda curious why it is labeled Service Pack 2 RC 2.52? I don't know how you come up with a release candidate number like that. Assuming the RC means release candidate.

I have Samsung SV2044D disk and I can't use UDMA under Windows 2000 (I use PIO mode). Has anybody had such problems. I have Soyo 5EAS mainboard with VIA chipset. Do I have to install bus master or something ???

Ok now we are sitting here waiting for someone so fortunate to afford an MSDN sub. to drop us a hint of how it is going since the bolder one's of us can't seem to Gank a copy of the beta from anyone. I think I am going to start a Technical school so I can get Academic pricing and enroll in it as a student LOL. Anyone got a couple grand laying around ? Invest hehe. I don't know a damn bit of programming language but I am willing to learn er teach myself. I do have alot of practical since and I understand engineering concepts : )

I dont think encoding to wmf format is useful for me. I prefer encoding to mp3. But anyways nice posting of the bug fixes for w2k that made me and my co-workers rofl at the amount of bugs.

The ONLY reason to encode into mp3 is if you are using it on multiple platforms, otherwise, windows media is greatly superior.

There's a lot of fixes in there that I've been desperately waiting for... Thank god MS got off their asses to finally sort them out.

I agree, especially with the ATA100 feature!! I'm running in Win98SE because of this very issue. I'm switching right back to Win2k when SP2 comes out!! :)

it better fixthe g** d*** problem with printing in IE 5.5. Icannot print from I.E. 5.5. The weird thing also is, it happens in all the profiles and you "CAN" print with other applications.... just not with in IE 5.5..... anyone know a fix?????

IE 5.5 (I'm not really sure how far back it goes) is probably the source, and Solution to this problem (at least the version I encountered). Bear in mind that I never tested this on Win 2k, but I spent a good 2 days fighting it on 98.

I tried everything from the "repair" option to removal and re-installation. Nothing worked. And something should have.

Finally, I tried something on a whim.

Go to Page Setup, and choose the correct printer. That fixed the problem for me.

I'm not sure what your problem is - I have NEVER had a problem with printing from IE 5.5 running Win 2K SP1. I have installed SP1 before and after upgrading from IE 5.01 to IE 5.5 without ANY problem at all. My printer is an aging HP Laserjet 5MP.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the problem isn't with Windows itself? Maybe you tweaked something you shouldn't have, or have a buggy printer driver.

That is a problem you are having that is unique to you, not something microsoft needs to fix, something unique about the way your computer is set up.

I also have that problem, but it seems to work remotely, but through the network I am too experiecing these difficulties and have tried numerous amounts of trying to solve this problem. I still havent fixed it though! I hope that MS really takes at look at it.

I'was very interesting in this patch, because I've got one problem from the day I upgraded to SP1 my Win2k. The problems is, if you had not installed Terminal Services before SP1, and you install SP1, the next time you want to install Terminal Services, the installation fails. Some files are not copied, and others shortcuts to de terminal services manager, etc are not created. Microsoft says that the bug is known, and the solution is. Unistall SP1, and uninstall all kind of sotware you installed afer the installation of SP1, trying to take the system to a very first state. Obviously, that's a crazy solution. I supposed SP2, should solve that bug. Anybdoy could help. You can help me if you know a new way to do the TServices Installation rightly in that situation. The other is saying me if SP2 solves this.

I sure hope the fix the issues regarding IDE HDD speeds with the Abit mobos. Supposedly Win2k will not run at ATA66 or ATA100 even if the HPT370 drivers are installed and "functioning" Win2k will not take advantage of the speeds. Some people have even reported blue stop screens when trying to run certain HDDs of the HPT370 chipset with an ATA100 compliant drive using ATA100 compatible cables.

The speeds of ATA devices are determined by the controller's driver. It has nothing to do with Win2k itself.

I agree with you and don't agree with you. It is true that the hardware does determine what it should run at, but it doesn't and that is where I disagree. Even though the hardware should be running at higher than ATA33 it doesn't because the drivers/software/OS do not utilize at this point there you should be able to see the concern. It all starts with the OS when it comes to utilization but the potential lies within the hardware. If Windows 2000 crashes/won't run at anything over ATA33 then the driver writers are not going to turn this feature on therefore even though you have the drivers installed that does not mean it will utilize the hardware's potential.

From earlier I felt I needed to come back and help. Not all people can afford the sub 5ms seek and no cpu overhead of a cheetah drive.
I had been running ata66 ide for storage on win2k with no problems . It has to be the motherboard and cable acceptance Plus the newer WD ata drives auto revert to ata when cabled up on a board that will do it and the older ones have software to turn it on. If anything win2k is more of an IDE software and it is pretty involved just setting up a scsi and ide machine. Win2k really likes to put itself on an ide drive lol. In the beginning once I had it install itself on a slave ide drive on my secondary chain rather than to my disk 0 scsi drive even though bios was set to boot scsi. The reason is that even an internal ide zip drive will be seen as disk 0 by the OS . Also it is best to Let the OS reformat and do the partitioning because any preformatted drives will be seen with that 7 or 8 mb of unpartitioned space in front of the drive instead of behind it causing further problems with Disk I/O error . In fact with a harddrive it will refuse to install until you let it do it's thing .
After that according to the mix it causes with the OS's view of the drives , a little administrative juggling from disk Management can chill the whole mess. I could be wrong or I could have left something out . This is just off the top of my head but Once win2k is properly set and up an going at least with a machine that is not older , it just flat out rocks! I hope I didnt offend anyone and I am trying to help. DZ was right and also the comment behind mine from this morning.
It has to be an ata cable and an ata complient board with all enabled either auto on the newer drives or with software to turn the ata 66/100 on in the drive. I hope I have helped . Thanks , I_N
