Windows 7 build 7022 leaks to torrent sites
By Tim Conneally | Published February 12, 2009, 10:03 PM

After Microsoft ended the Windows 7 Beta 1 downloads this week, reports of the appearance of a new leaked build quickly began to roll in. Users who didn't get a chance to download Beta 1 are now turning to BitTorrent sites to get the newer, leaked release.
Though reportedly "nothing major," the 7022 build is dated January 15, and includes Internet Explorer 8 RC 1. Windows 7 Beta 1 was build 7000.
Installed it on a 3 year old laptop that run too slowly with windows vista to be of any use. So I bought a new laptop. But after I installed W7 it now came back to life and runs as fast as windows XP did, except with all the new features. Awesome!!

|They updated MS Paint, and a few other things. Anecdotal reports of better performance have been thrown around...
*shrug*
Not going to bother with this one, I can wait until April. For those interested, however, I've seen it on Demonoid posted by "orbit30". The guy hangs around in comments to answer questions and his torrents are generally well recieved.

MP3 files
When MP3 files are added (either manually or automatically) to either the Windows Media Player or the Windows Media Center library, or if the file metadata is edited with Windows Explorer, several seconds of audio data may be permanently removed from the start of the file. This issue occurs when files contain thumbnails or other metadata of significant size before importing or editing them. To avoid this, take the following steps:
To protect your MP3 files
1. Before you install this Beta release, back up all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer, including those on removable media or network shares.
2. Install the Beta release of Windows 7; then install this update (KB961367).
If you do not want to install the update, you can avoid this issue by setting all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer to read-only before starting either Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center or before editing MP3 metadata with Windows Explorer. To do this, in Windows Explorer, find the files, right-click them, click the General tab, and then select the Read-only check box. Once you have installed the update, you can safely reset the read/write status of your MP3 files to your preference.

|Hello everyone, how are you doin?
The change that most profoundly impacted my heart (!) has been the new graphics. Do you see that white-ish lavender colours? Well here's the thing: they are plain... flat. Like boring. They lessen attractiveness. A lot. They look almost just ugly. And combined with those blue and yellow shields and pale blue links, worse. It makes everything look so dull! I'm already not such a fan of the all-transparent taskbar, much less without transparency. It looks like utter sh*t.
Vista's graphics for that had much more punch, were way more lively and beautiful than these new ones.
Looks horrible, quite matching Aero Basic's colours but as they'll will be present with the full Aero too, i hope they WHOLE HEARTEDLY revise it. As someone said, XP got it's icons and graphics heavily updated even after RC so i'll have some hope that they lean on that department full-time later on. I'll rather dislike 7's interface if they don't, and remember how important this aspect is: many people got Vista just blinded with the Wow effect!
Cheers!

|I can understand where you're coming from. The reason they changed the colors is readability. Earlier betas had some hard-to-see UI elements, so they basically tweaked the colors to increase contrast. Of course none of this really matters - its perfume on an increasingly homely little pig. The new taskbar is at best a sad ripoff of another OS, and at worst a confusing experiment with poor usability. The 64-bit version is, astoundingly, even less stable than the 32-bit on a range of platforms. This combined with terrible driver support, a truly hideous new Internet Explorer and another foray into "SKU purgatory" make this anything BUT the "best Windows yet." I would love to see Microsoft pull off a Hail Mary, but its almost like they want to fail.

|Psycros,
Sorry my friend I have no idea from where you are coming. Perhaps "It's Lost in Translation", may I ask if you believe W7 is a sows ear. Or perhaps MSFT are throwing pearls before swine?
Am running the new build on an XPS M1530, and quite enjoy the nature of the contrasts.
An issue I have had for some years is pertinent to this, in that most of my rigs have nvidia cards, my eyes do not like the slightly bilious yellow when displaying whites, greys and other what should be bland backgrounds, yep getting old. But, there should be no reason to change contrast for specific readability.
Maybe, I should have my "Googles" on.

|I kind of agree about the new taskbar. Aesthetically, I like Vista's rounded edges much better. Win 7s taskbar is totally squared off. Hoping this can or will be changed. Not a fan of mixing open and closed apps either. What was wrong with the quick launch? Everything else visually I like about it.
