Windows Media Player 11 Delayed

Microsoft has temporarily put its release of Windows Media Player 11 on hold, citing quality concerns. According to several Windows enthusiast sites such as Neowin, the company pushed back its target date from Tuesday to October 30. The newest version of the player includes several enhancements, including a new user interface, improved syncing, and integration with the URGE music service.

Windows Media Player 11 has been publicly available as a beta download since May of this year. However, issues with the quality of the release have apparently caused Microsoft to delay the final product while last minute bugs are ironed out.

"Quality issues" and just what does that mean? I downloaded WMP11 when it was in beta. It looked good, but that was about as far as it went.It wouldn't burn any cds,acted buggy. Friend's had similar problems and worse. When I heard it was going to final release, I didn't plan to d/l it right away. Thought I'd give it awhile, and see the inevitable fallout. Looks like I'll have to wait awhile longer.Delayed, I'm shocked. lol

I'm using Media Player 11 and it works fine for me. However, why don't they make the interface more intuitive? How am I supposed to know to right click on the music notes in the bottom left hand corner to access the menu? And yes, I know that I can turn on classic menus, but they didn't come turned on by default (although maybe this will be different in the final version).

My question is why do this with WMP11. Quality issues have never stopped them from releasing anything else half-a**ed.

That was in the past. In recent years, MS has changed a lot. Most of their recently released software are of good quality (or at least acceptable quality).

I guess MS is trying to play safe, especially after what happened to the buggy Apple's iTunes 7.

How are they going to delay this when its integrated in vista? Does that mean they will ship the code as is in vista and call it good then deliver a giant patch in January when its released?

I'd rather them delay it then send out a release filled with bugs and obvious security holes.

I have news you, even after a year delay to fix bugs and security holes. The very first day it's released I guarantee you there's going to be brand new bugs and security holes.

No they do, but when M$ software has bugs it affects 95% of computers on the planet. When Apple software has bugs they deny it:-) even so it only affects that 3%. And of course Linux is just perfect;-) SUSE Rulez!!!

Absolutely this must've been wise--the last thing I want is a flood of calls asking about Microsoft's new problems.

I also agree with drumcat below--the beta did seem to have a number of glitches--I thought perhaps my 'clean' Windows configuration had to do with it, but apparently not.
