XP Media Center to Get Hotmail Add-in

Microsoft's 10-foot Media Center interface for viewing video and pictures on the TV is not just for digital media anymore. Redmond developers have created a new add-in for the special edition of Windows XP that provides users access to their Hotmail accounts for reading e-mail between television shows.
"Email name is cached on login, however the user must enter the password on next login," explains Windows Vista product manger Sean Alexander. "An on-screen keyboard displays making it easier to tap in with a remote, but I really recommend a keyboard at this point." A preview release of the add-in, is expected to be available for download next week.
Heh...another lawsuit I'm sure, probably from Yahoo! or something...
Seriously, I don't use hotmail, and yet I don't care that it will be included with Windows. More convinient for those who use Hotmail I guess, so as a tech support guy I suppose this is a good idea.

|I have previously used Hotmail Plus, and am now a MOOL subscriber (that's Microsoft Outlook Live for you home gamers). I have been using Windows and Outlook exclusively for years, and the service itself does what it says and it is cheaper than paying for an IMAP or Exchange service provider. POP3 doesn't offer the synchronization and calendar features!
I would be willing to bet that most peoples' hotmail accounts have outlived their ISPs. ;)
Microsoft shouldn't have to support functions or features that don't promote its services. However, I wouldn't be surprised if some 3rd party add-in appears down the line to support non-Hotmail accounts.

|So... when can I expect to be able to download my hotmail messages via a POP3 client? :P

|i think you have to pay to be able to get POP3. I remember that years ago you could do it, but microsoft decided to make it a premium service.

|Indeed they did, one reason I quit using hotmail altogether.

|or just use freepops. problem solved.

|I also have POP access with hotmail, however, hotmail is just used for my "public" account. I have a custom domain which I would also like to use with MCE.
