Xbox 360 Goes Retro with '80s Games

Microsoft said Wednesday that it would add retro video games as part of its offerings in Xbox Live Arcade. The first game to be available through the program would be "Frogger," costing the user 400 Microsoft Points, equivalent to $5.00 USD. Over the next five weeks, the Redmond company plans to release a game every Wednesday. In each game, Microsoft has updated the classics to support better graphics, as well as creating new ways to play through the company's Xbox Live service.
Xbox Live Arcade has been a surprising success for the company, with over five million free trial games downloaded, and over one million actually purchased. Microsoft said that use of the service has been across a broad segment of customers, including hardcore gamers and beginners alike. Right now, 20 games are available through the service, however Microsoft has plans to increase that to 50 games by the end of the year.
I wish IBM would port Lotus Notes to Xbox 360

|convert MAME to Xbox and shove all the roms on dvd and you have the origional beast you shoved coins in to play. A Arcade players dream.

|MAME is already on the xbox, along with emulators for just about any other system you can think of (NES, SNES, Genesis, ColecoVision, Atari, etc).

|I didnt know since I dont have one, but thanks for the info. MAME rocks, and since its the origional rom code it is just as good as the real thing IMO. The tarted up versions are ok , if they compliment the origionals, but for the most part they are not as good as the origionals.
I have a non working scramble table top machine, I think I might fit an Xbox inside and convert it to a multiple arcade based on the xbox. I was going to do it with PC bits, but the xbox would be a better neater option if I can get the controls to interface correctly. Atm its just a coffee table but aim to get it working since its a nice collectable item. I could buy a scrable PCB, but to be honest i have had it 4 years and the desire to play other games is strong :P

|thinking this is in anticipation of the wii, and it's ability to play retro games.
nice try MS, still won't buy one, i'll wait for the wii.
besides, if you're into the retro games, you would have already purchased the compilation discs. (midway arcade 1-2-3, namco museum, etc.)
i think i've bought them all, and they only cost about $15 for 10-20 games per disc.

|Both MS and Sony are worried about wii, and rightly so. Its cheaper, it will have a good eastern following, it will have games that really less on eyecandy and more on gameplay.
Anyone who has a Xbox, PC or Playstation in the market for a second console could be interested in wii as a nice cheap option.
Sonic sold sega, mario & zelda sold nintendo. Tetris sold the gameboy.
Im sure noone at ms or sony are laughing.
