iTunes to Make Windows Debut October 16

"The year's biggest music story is about to get even bigger," reads an invitation sent by Apple to leading reporters and industry analysts.
One week before it launches Mac OS X version 10.3, code-named Panther, Apple will officially unveil iTunes for the Windows platform - bringing the company's music store to an immense new market of PC users.
An event will be held in San Francisco at 10am on October 16 to herald in the new Windows service.
Earlier this year, Apple began recruiting developers for iTunes for Windows, confirming rumors that the software would be ported to Microsoft's ubiquitous operating system. Apple CEO Steve Jobs previously said the company planned to bring the iTunes Music Store to Windows by the end of 2003.
But Apple will face a wealth of competition when it begins courting Windows customers. Roxio recently launched a beta version of its Napster 2.0 music service, and MusicMatch began offering 99-cent downloads in an attempt to mirror the success of iTunes.
The iTunes Music Store sold its ten millionth song in September and averages over 500,000 paid downloads per week.
Hey "filthramir"...in case you needed further clarification, the comments were tongue-in-cheek. Jobs came as close as anyone could get to running Apple into the ground. Smart guy, Jobs...he's learned from Bill Gates, a guy whose never had an original idea, but is the richest man in the world!
And I have a feeling we'll all be able to run OSX on our comps any month now!
Let's see. Apple sold $1mil the first month but has dropped to half since. That number will drop again, and, let's see...who'll care where we can "buy" mp3's from?! 8-) We won't!!! HAHAHAAAHAAAHAHAAAAAHAAAA!

|To correct you, Jobs did not run Apple into the ground, he saved Apple. It was the people that got rid of Jobs, brought in worthless CEOs that was running Apple into the ground. Jobs came back, brought our the iMac and the comuting world will never be the same again. Look at all the people to mimic what Apple creates, Apple has a small market share and by producing an iPod that works on the PC also will open a large market, by the way the universal mac/pc iPod has been out for months now....

|I couldn't believe my eyes (or ears) when I saw the commercial for the IPod with the end "For Macintosh and PC"! I thought Steve Jobs had scruples. But, as it turns out, he's finally learned from Gates: If you're gonna run a business, make $$$. When will be seeing HP & Dell with OS X? Just a matter of time, my friends...

what a totally assanine statement, of course a business is going to make money...thats why its in business. How does doing whats good for his business mean he's sold out or lost his scruples? what a dumba** comment.

|All music sold by iTunes is digitally fingerprinted and they have your personal information. If you’re not careful, you can get sued.

|The music industry is suing EVERYBODY indiscriminately, including children. Are you going to reward them by buying their music? Don't do it. www.eff.org

|Does anyone know if music from ITunes is just an MP3, or does it have DRM like the files from Buymusic.com?
