ABC Primetime Shows Now Online

By the Betanews Staff | Published May 1, 2006, 10:50 AM

As expected, ABC on Monday placed the first four episodes of its primetime shows online for viewing. The offering is part of a two-month trial announced by the broadcaster last month. New episodes will appear the day after they air, and are encoded in Flash 8, meaning both Mac and PC users are able to use the service.

Initial shows include a "Desperate Housewives" episode from April 30; new episodes from "Lost" and "Alias" from April 26; and a "Commander in Chief" episode from April 27. The standard viewing size would be 500x282 pixels, however a higher bandwidth version would be available at 700x394 pixels. Despite the free offering, ABC will continue to sell its shows without ads through the iTunes Music Store for $1.99 USD, the company has said.

Who watches ABC any more?
I have a PVR that I use on my system.
PVR=personal video recorder.
Only limited to the size of the hard drive.
Then, when I have enough to make a DVD, I put it there.

Hmm..nice, but we can't download them, they are streaming...

There's gotta be a practical way to capture/save the streams or even just grab from the server...

Flash downloads it to a temp directory. Just like pandora.

All ya gottaa do is find it.

OK, I will try it tonight.. and see, but if you figure something out let me know..

Ah, ok.. Well sometimes they are just stub files, like 100 k or something, and it doesn't download the entire file.. its a constant stream from the server, same principle that Cinema now uses, so you can't steal their content..

I will try it tonight, our T1 is so slow at work, I have to wait to get home on my 8 mb connection :)

Could be. I ahven't messed with it myself. If you do go for it, use Firefox. The temp files are generally easier to find..
