Dell Launches Blog, Gets Criticized

By Nate Mook | Published July 11, 2006, 4:14 PM

Dell this week took the wraps off its official company Web log, called "one2one." The site is intended to give a personal face to the world's largest computer maker, and address issues that are of concern for Dell's customers. But some bloggers are already voicing complaints.

Pundit Steve Rubel said "the Dell blog reads like a corporate brochure," and attacked the company for not engaging in "genuine conversation" with the community. Dell digital media manager Lionel Menchaca responded to the criticism, saying the computer maker will keep working to get it right. "We’re excited to be here, and we welcome your ideas," he said.

these guys should add a technical support by users because their support stinks!!! it would benefit the company tremendously!!!

If Dell really opened up two-way comm with customers, it would be something like "why don't you wake up and sell ___ like Apple does?" Followed by tech support Rahishavidishishishisnu in India: "Would you like a mouse pad with that?"

Dear Corporate America:
Blogs are not you, and you are not blogs.

Why do companies keep pushing this? because it's hip?

No doubt, hosted in India right along side their tech-support.

"the Dell blog reads like a corporate brochure"

It could be worse; it could sound like their lousy tech support.

Spamming isn't free speech.
Ironic that the bloggers whine about comment spam, but when they do it to other sites everything is termed "free speech."

Get out of here.

What? I was not spamming. The conversation had to do with Poker and Blogging . . . someone even said "blogger poker". My post was on topic and at least in my eyes somewhat funny.

In referring to free speech I was talking about the fact that the poster above me mentioned he'd like to have a poker blog but that would be a felony in the state he lives in.

It sucks I have to defend myself, especially since I was pointed to this site by someone who linked to it in another forum!

hmmmm....let's see....most blogs take comments, and comments often lead to discussion. Nope, not mixed up. I wouldn't read a blog that didn't accept comments.
