Google Accidentally Spreads Virus

By the Betanews Staff | Published November 9, 2006, 1:53 PM

Google may have accidentally infected some subscribers of the Google Video mailing list with the W32/Kapser.A@mm virus, better known as the "Karma Sutra" worm. At least three separate e-mails went out over the list that may have been infected, reaching approximately 50,000 subscribers. The virus will overwrite selected files on a specific date and was first discovered in February of this year.

"If you think you have downloaded this virus from the group or an email message, we recommend you run your antivirus program to remove it," the company said in an e-mail that went over the list on Wednesday. Google officials said the company was taking steps to prevent future occurrences.

Laughing at all of the comments and wondering how many MS-bashing comments there would be if it were Microsoft that had infected 50k users. My guess is this forum would look a lot different, yet somehow, I am not surprised.

Point being, these things happen. Sucks in any case...

Its Apple's fault.

On the other hand, if you are running OSX or Vista, per MS' Allchin, you needn't worry. ;-)

well 50k users isnt that much considernig their user base of millions and millions. It's also an extremely old virus, unless your running a very old version of windows or no antivirus and you just happen to be one of thse 50k users, better luck next time.

Wow. n00b at it's best eh? Google for 1) Offers so many good things that a simple, out-dated virus should not effect any person running any anti-virus ever made. This article must be another of Yahoo!'s tricks...Trying to put Google down again...
