LCD TV Prices Set to Fall Next Year

Both LG and Sharp announced at the IFA electronics show in Berlin this week that the cost of LCD flat-panel televisions will fall dramatically in 2007, with prices dropping 20% to 30%. The companies attribute the expected savings to overproduction and lower manufacturing costs.
Falling prices could help LCD technology better compete with plasma televisions, which have been more popular for larger displays due to their lower price tag. "Last year we saw about 30% price reductions for plasma and a little bit more for LCD," said LG head of marketing Young Chan Kim. "Next year, in 2007, we expect about the same."
I'm so tired of this annual prediction. They said this in 2004 and again in 2005. Even retail salespukes were repeating that mantra. I'll believe it when I see it. Heck, it's probably intentional propaganda by the CRT manufacturers to scare people away from buying Plasma longer. Need a bigger TV? Hmmm, a 32 inch tube is less than half the cost of the Plasma, which is not going to drop for another year, I'll get the tube! (just musing)

|Sadly, the main use of this nice bit of technology is wasted unless they produce enough (there are some, but not many) top-rate programs to watch on it.
So much of TV is tripe these days that I virtually stopped watching it two years ago. I couldn't be bothered to wade through the rubbish (reality TV, etc.) to get to the few good programs.
Anyway, I hope at least that you lot enjoy this new technology. :-)

|Well, I wouldn't be surprised - porn seems to drive many new technologies.
Video tapes meant you could watch porn in your own house instead of going to a seedy cinema.
DVDs - porn uses more of the features than most being films! Eg. multi-angles.
The internet - 20% porn (only 80% left to go).
P2P - share porn.
New immortality nanotechnology - watch porn forever and so on.
Bleh!

|And this is why companies usually try to avoid announcing price cuts this early...I was considering buying one before the end of the year, now I will just wait.

|Those tvs probably cost pennies to the dollar to make anyways, they can take the "dramatic" price reduction...
