MSN Begins Testing Messenger 7.5

Microsoft's MSN division has begun beta testing the next release of MSN Messenger, version 7.5. The update brings a number of minor feature enhancements such as voice clips and animated conversation window backgrounds, along with interface tweaks including a redesigned sign-on screen and renamed buttons.

Voice clips enable users to record short messages that can last up to 15 seconds and are then played on a contact's computer. Clips do not playback automatically; a user must select the Play button to listen. Both users must be running MSN Messenger 7.5 for the feature to work.

Animated conversation window backgrounds let users add some spice to their IM chats. Microsoft has included two built-in backgrounds from Blue Mountain: a fish swimming and clocks ticking. It's likely Microsoft will offer more backgrounds that can be purchased for a small fee.

The MSN Messenger 7.5 release, build 160, has been issued to a small group of testers via Microsoft's new Connect beta portal. Public applications are not currently being accepted to the invitation-only beta program, but that hasn't stopped some testers from leaking the bits.

Microsoft has not yet announced a timetable for the client's final release.

I can't seem to sign into Yahoo messenger...It says "Can't connect", please tell me why! It wants me to check proxies , and I'm not sure which one to use.

I like Msn Messenger 7.5 much more than the latest version. Why can't I use this version instead of the latest? Every time I try logging in, it says I need to download the latest version. Please tell me if I can fix this... I'm really old school and prefer this version better than the latest.

Hey its me again... I found a way to get rid of it... Thanks to someone telling me! Thanks!

Ctrl - Alt - Dlt
to get into the Task Manager
Then go to Processes
Click on "msnappm.exe"
and then click on end to end its task!

yay now i can use MSN!!

i have msn messenger 7.5 but when i try to open the program it seems to open way off to the right of the screen and is not visible. i have no problem with any other program in this respect and i dont see how i can cure it, i have tried uninstalling messenger and downloading it again but it still opens off the screen,how am i supposed to use msn messenger 7.5 if i cant see it?

Iv downloaded about every msn possible and everyone shows black and white lines through every display pic i display, you cant even see the pic, also where you see the online status of your contacts, mine just show black by everyones name....how do i fix this?

I can download MSN just fine but when people try to send me emoticons they dont show up as the picture it shows up as just the word. How do i get the picture to show up instead of just the word?

I'm trying to get my MSN to work, and I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times but it keeps giving me troubleshooter... any ideas what I can do to get back on? Windows messenger is working, it's just MSN that isn't.

yeah man im trying too download Messenger 7.5
and every time when it gets too 9.9 like when its about too finish download this pop up thingy comes up msn messenger setup failed with error code '1601' plz go to the msn messenger wesite too download the latest version of msn messenger... and let me give u a joke i download the program off the website http://messenger.msn.com/Xp/Default.aspx ...and still getin the same message I NEED SOME HELP!!!

MSN 7.5 whenever i go to log on it keeps going to the troubleshooter and when i go to repair i put in my user name/password and it wont log on so i uninstall and reinstall it and try to sign in and the troubleshooter keeps popping up everytime and doesnt work yet windows messenger logs in fine any ideas?

my messenger 7.5 will not let me sign in as it says my firewall is blocking it but it never done this b4 so i done everything the msn help person said, i even uninstalled my firewall to try it then and it still said it was blocking it plz plz plz help me out as my family is very important to me and now i cant keep in touch with them, thank you very much

i just want to know...what is the difference between msn 7.0 and msn 7.5 . and, msn doesnt seem to be answering ANYONES comments, thats what its for isnt it? it also said that 7.5 is only being given out to certain people or whatever, but my friend downloaded it last night, he said that it took 2 hours also, no other msn has taken that long to download...is it really worth it?

My understanding is that messenger 7.5 was only sent to a select few for beta testing for 30-days. Since I have several computers I downloaded it to only on which took about 3-minutes by DSL. My opinion of Bill Gates is in the toilet. Him and the S/W people really ought to do do something about the IE slug. As far as 7.5 I keeping 7.0 as it works just fine. Some of my friends are so annoyed they are downgrading to MSN 0.0

Yawn, what a waste. All 7.5 has is a few design changes and the voice clip thing. Personally, I would prefer real-time conversation. Also some other little changes.

I don't think this is even worth bothering with. MSN Messenger is screwed up, they messed it up and made it truly crap at version 6-7. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I can't even have a decent talk/conversation with someone without those stupid custom emotions or winks coming up on my screen. It's like a little kids toy, or a child's playground. 7.5 is just an upgrade to the playground.

It sucks.

I can't wait to get away from MSN, for good. That'll be my happy day!

We have just downloaded msn messenger 7.5 and have found that the voice chat is not as good as 7.0. We can not chat and view web cam at the same time... the mic just seems not to play correctly. We have checked the mic in other things and works well.........

I experienced the same problem after 'upgrading' to msn messenger 7.5. I then 'downgraded' to version 7.0 and everything works fine except when I try to communicate with other users who have upgraded to 7.5. Seems the problem has something to do with broadband routers. Most routers do not have UPnP ports and 7.5 relies upon this feature.

Configure your voice chat using the messenger toolbar selecting the audio wizard. Make sure the mic and speakers / headset works on the display shown Then go to program acessories in the windows start menu selecting accessories and choosing audio recorder. Although it may be confusing at first you may have to try choosing several different selections of audio modes and saving them to get it to work. Once configured go back to messenger to test it with a friend of whom you know already has working voice comm. If everything you try fails there is always the 12Ga. shotgun option. Otherwise remove and delete 7.5 and keep 7.0 as it has proven reliability. Go to control panel and use add/remove programs and then to the recycle bin to restore 7.0 if you deleted it. Hey in this case I would just delste 7.5 and go with 7.0 right now there is so many loop holes in 7.5 that it is unusable to some. So just go and delete the new version and go for something that is tested properly!

Oh and msn 7.5 sounds cool as long as Stuffplug and msn plus bring out updates so that they will work with it too.

Here, if anyone is ever wondering if there is a new version out or if your looking for the download link just go to www.msnmessenger7.net and see for yourself, any time there is a new version the links for the download get put onto that website, there is a link for every single version of msn messenger 7 there is on that site

Why can't Msn Messenger 7.5 be able to have custom emoticons in peoples msn names? All of my friends thought that would be the next thing out in the new msn. But either way I can't way till Msn 7.5 is not BETA anymore.

Any product is going to have "bloat" according to some people and yet not have enough features to others. Get over it people... there is such a thing as alternative products.

MSN and every other company adds functionality at will... it is your choice whether to use it or not. Many of you are incorrect in assuming that features automatically consume more RAM. The entire concept of DLL's and modular code would be moot if they did. Your memory footprint is for the basic client functionality that you enable, and using OPTIONS to enable/disable components is supposed to alter that footprint. (Unless it's AIM 5.9.x which for some reason has always had a memory leak)

Anyway, it's funny to see people whine about animated backgrounds that they are not forced into using... it's just a choice, an option... use it if you like, don't if you don't... where's the problem?

MSN Messenger is lacking a very important feature: offline messages. In general, it is just a crappy tool compared to Yahoo Messenger or ICQ and people just use it because it is bundled with XP.

I guess MSN 7.5 hasn't this feature yet.

MSN Messenger 7.5 dont have the feature "offline messaging"

Also, the one bundled with windows xp is Windows Messenger which is different from MSN Messenger.

Repeat after me...

"MSN MESSENGER DOES NOT COME WITH WINDOWS XP!"

"WINDOWS MESSENGER DOES COME WITH WINDOWS XP!"

"THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO PRODUCTS!"

When you, and others who make this claim, get this through your heads, then you can know that I do, indeed, agree with the Offline messages feature needing to be added.

You can also know that, I don't think MSN is crappy... certainly not when compared to Yahoo, AIM, or ICQ. All of the products have positive and negative aspects to them, and users should make decisions for themselves to use the products they like or else use Trillian (and similar) to connect to all of them.

Ive installed it, Im using, but dont like the beta testing, i think its unstable, Has crashed on me a number of occasions. Im not sure of this being to early for a beta program. But i have successfully installed the cracks and patches just to get rid of the annoying things i do hate about msn messenger like the ads and crap.

So let me get this straight... You don't like beta testing because it's "unstable"... and yet you both installed beta software on your computer (which resulted in crashing of a type you don't clarify) and you hang out on a web site called "BETA NEWS"?!?!

The only conclusions I can draw on your post is... Somehow, I am betting that your use of English in your post is somehow flawed and that your point is not stated clearly, otherwise I would be led to believe you wasting your own time being here when you dislike betas.

(Why people install and use products they know they don't like only to complain and justify their dislike is beyond me)

Uhhh...I'm going to discard the comment directly below mine into the trash, but respond to it nonetheless.

Bloat has two definitions in computer programs:
A) Extra features that are useless, unrequired, or unwanted(and use up system resources).
B) Horribly coded or inefficient features(ie, IE is bloat, since FF can do the same with about 50% the memory usage).

Anything microsoft designs soon gets filled with bloat to make it more user-friendly. There's nothing wrong with bloat, as most people are on 2ghz+ processors now adays, so not many care if something starts in 0.5seconds or 8 seconds, but on a 400mhz you'll notice when after installing IE 6.0, your boot time goes up 15 seconds, or when "Acrobat Reader 7.0" takes 147seconds to start up.

Btw, to anyone like me that had a problem with Acrobat Reader, google "Foxit Reader". It starts up in like 1/15th the time.(About 8-10 seconds on that 400mhz instead of 147 seconds)

Edit: Using a webmessenger(inside a webpage right?) would be equivalent to using bloat. They have high memory requirements usually, are slow, and can use a lot of the processor. Also, that would require starting up your browser, which is also using memory.

cool..I love all the new stuff..what do u haters call..bloat? lmfao@ u. I dont like "just a messenger" for that use webmessegers ;)keep bringing the bloat ..many of us LOVE IT!

I have an old amd athlon 1200mhz lol yes I use firefox and I am smart enough to disable any useless services ..i must say my old pc runs flawless,fast..in fact I dont care to upgrade yet ;)

Just what I always wanted in a messenger. Why can't they just make it with a unclutter, unbloated, adless interfance like Gaim has. Just a messenger, that's all I ask for not a piece of bloatware with all this crap that I never use.

I used to like MSN, and they are coming out with great new features. Just bloat though. I know of a better free adless program for ech new function they have.

plus the biggest thing... I have friends on all clients!! so, for all of you that use MSN mess. this is getting really good. for the rest of us... see you miranda IM/Gaim or Qnext(i know but it's java!!)

I'm glad you're making a choice to support and use products that suit your needs! :) Good for you, and I wish more would do the same.

I use Trillian to connect to AIM and a backup MSN account, and MSN for my primary AIM account. Between the two, I am able to do pretty much anything I want with minimal effort.

You guys that just whine about stuff, offering nothing really substantive, why do you even bother? Your comments are not productive, no one thinks you are intelligent for it, you just come out looking like immature, irrational adults. If you do not like how a product is going, why not put a list together of something useful and email it - afterall, technology is customer driven! :)
