Microsoft's MSN business unit is welcoming testers to a limited beta for a new product called MSN Web Messenger. Like America Online's AIM Express, MSN Web Messenger brings real-time communications to the browser without the need to install client software. A limited public beta is available at the MSN web site.

I've been using msn2go (msn2go.com) for a while
now. I'm assuming that as soon as the RFC was
released for the messenger protocol, these projects were started. I remember trying another but can't think of it off hand. msn2go isn't perfect but it has gotten the job done for me just fine.

I've been waiting for something like this from Microsoft. I use AOL's AIM Express a lot, and I've needed something from MSN cause a lot of my friends are on MSN. Now, if only I could find the program that MSN keeps telling me is blocking popups, I would be able to actually try it out :-P

Firefox and Opera have pop-up blockers built-in, if your using one of those.

And why would you need the 'Express' version of the messenger, why not just download it?

Many companies and college campuses block the installation of such programs. Not to mention, what if I simply don't WANT to install yet another program on the computer? What if I use many computers during the day and need to get quick and easy access to messenger for a short term message?

There are plenty of reasons for it.

I am at a school that has public computers in it, so that's why I don't want to put messenger on. I am pretty good at covering my tracks, but it is just a hassle to have to take it off and put it back on repeatedly.

This is really forthose who find themselves out on the road at a place which either doesn't have the full version installed doesn't allow one to install other programs.
