Microsoft Delivers New Vista Beta Build
By Nate Mook | Published July 17, 2006, 1:29 PM
Microsoft on Monday released Windows Vista Beta Build 5472 to technical beta testers, TAP customers and MSDN subscribers. The interim update is intended to give testers a more recent build, and encourage application and device driver developers to accelerate deployment on Vista.
Quality and performance enhancements are the primary changes in 5472, along with further tweaks to User Account Control. The new build is the second to follow Beta 2, and will not be released to Customer Preview Program participants. Microsoft expects to deliver the next public release of Windows Vista, Release Candidate 1, later this quarter.

that WinVista will be released in January, 2007.

|Extract? It's an ISO file. No extracting necessary. Takes about 20 Minutes as of the time I tried it, oh....last night.

And we have a winner folks! This guy used a Beta OS as his primary environment and is now paying the price.
You, sir, are exactly the type of person who *shouldn't* be using the Beta.
As for your data:
If you have an external device, or a network share on another PC, Vista's version of the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard is called 'Windows Easy Transfer'. Should be on your start-menu somewhere. ;) (Don't have my test system in front of me.)

|Since I don't have the PC power to obtain vista mega requirements I did the next best thing and emulated it using a feature from CrystalXP.nET called a Brico pack. Personally I like the Crystal Clear vs. Vista. Not really sure Vista is the best way to go, especially since there is another release of MS on the way in about a year or so based on another feature called BlackComb.. Vista is based on LongHorn.
Sadly these two products BlackComb and Longhorn have been available in developement under the radar for many years as the orginal names. Just getting the kinks and removing un-needed features that would over power the system or as i would say make it work normal. Same difference.
Just be prepared for a major compatability issue for Drivers, games and apps.

|Next version of Windows is codenamed 'Fiji', and will be between Vista and Vienna. (also referred to as "Vista R2", this may actually be only a major *update* to Vista.
Vienna release is quite a ways off yet, not just "a year or so".
Planned release is between 2009-2012. I bet you all can guess where it might *actually* land.

You might be suprised to know most folks *don't* make a habit of talking to goats... disabled or otherwise. ;)

|That is very unusual. I thought that once Microsoft started releasing beta versions of an OS to MSDN subscribers that every subsequent beta of the OS was made available to MSDN subscribers.

|Nope. Several Betas have not made it to MSDN.

|Just checked in my MSDN subscribers section, nothing new to see :-( Got a load of Resolved bug report messages recently from MS, from bugs I raised against beta 2, so I may give the post beta a whirl, see if it's any better...

|Hi Nate,
I just spoke with an MSDN representative. He told me that while a future post-Beta 2 release of Windows Vista will be made available to MSDN subscribers sometime within the next few weeks, it will not be 5472. And to confirm this, I have checked with the current download list at MSDN and 5472 is not posted.

|Even worse, the DVD iso that is up on MSDN is 5342... isn't that considered ancient now? ;-)
