RSSMicrosoft to Offer Live.com Addresses

Starting June 20, Microsoft customers will be able to sign up for a new e-mail address from the company under the @live.com and @windowslive.com domain names. The address will be associated with Windows Live ID, formerly known as Passport, and will work with any MSN or Windows Live service.
The new e-mail account will not include current contacts, but Microsoft is working on a migration tool that will allow users to import them from Hotmail and MSN. "If you are excited about the new domains names then definitely sign up and let your contacts know about your new address. This is a great opportunity to make get the account name you have always wanted," says the Windows Live Mail team.

|As long as you don't give it out to to many people it can be a little more private for a few months. After that, then who knows.

|I wish they allowed account conversion. I'm bored with my hotmail addresses but I don't really wanna cancel em' since I've signed up to many forums with them already. And for those saying oh it's not a big deal - ofcourse its not. But it's good news for people who use or depend on MS webmail. Personally, I don't really want to keep a @hotmail or @msn address if MS is migrating completely to the windows live brand. I like to keep stuff uniform. Eventually they're going to merge msn and hotmail email into the windows live platform.

|Why would I want another microsoft email address anyway. The one I have is sitting there with a weeks worth of junk in it right now..same with the gmail account I have. That's all those 2 are good for anyway. All the stuff I care about is going to my Yahoo account.

|Funny. I got a Yahoo address a while ago just for the heck of it (2Gb and all...). I have NEVER given my Yahoo address out to anyone, and I get at least 2 or 3 spam e-mails that make it to my Inbox per week. Another 20-30 go to my bulk folder.
Now, that's not a whole lot, but consider this:
I have given my Gmail address to countless websites for newsletters, logins to their websites, etc.
And I get maybe 20 spam e-mails per week, all of which are accurately identified and put in my spam folder. I have never had a spam e-mail in my inbox.
