Microsoft Ups Xbox 360 Shipments

Microsoft said Tuesday that beginning this week, it will ship two to three times the number of Xbox 360 consoles to retailers. The company says its component issues have been ironed out and manufacturing partner Celestica has begun manufacture of the console, allowing Microsoft to ship more units to its retail partners.

The company will have 80 games available on the platform by June. Some of those new titles include "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion," "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter," "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend," and "X-Men: The Official Game." Additionally, Microsoft announced that its Xbox Live Marketplace has reached 10 million downloads, and that 85 percent of consoles have downloaded content from the marketplace.

IMO

if microsoft sells all the units that were "UNSOLD" to manufacturers such as best buy, walmart, target, etc. They still make there money they dont care if they sell in other countries as long as they can get manufacturers here to keep buying them..

Months? How long?

They are on the 3rd or 4th generation of Xbox 360.. The only reason I have not purchased one yet is because of ths lack of games available on it.

That's great, but even at the current rate, there are plenty of XBox 180's to go around. Where I live, the shelves are full of unsold units.

Ramping up production 3fold just before Summer, means nothing more than large warehouses with unsold XBox 180's. It does not automatically mean people waiting for PS3 will buy them...

It may mean however than a price-drop may be due, to re-ignite demand...

It's half a XBox360. Microsoft left out loads of stuff, in a rush to get them on the shelves for xmas, the original XBox360 has a more powerful CPU, better ATI GPU, HD compatible storage format, HDMI connectors to connect to HD sets.

The resulting XBox180 had none of these..

Did Microsoft make any promises to the public that it would have those things or mislead them in any way? They made it very clear what was in the Xbox 360 when it was released. It's not unusual for features to be dropped before a product is finished, no matter who it is. I am sure even Sony has dropped features in the past. I don't really see what the big deal is and calling it a 180 just seems pointless and childish. It is what it is, and it's still a very good console which in many areas still beats the PS3 (and the PS3 beats it in others). It's a console, not a religion. No need to get so worked up about it and make up names.

Hmm empty boxes im guessing. If you look at most etailers there are SOLD-OUT and Outofstock signs everywhere.

Here were I live they're still handing out Xboxes for pre orders, and both Compusas here get stock bi-weekly and within 1 -2 days they are out of stock. They are getting them in packs of 50s mind you.

So I guess you either live in the Northpole, or in your own little dreamworld.

What bit of "the shelves are full of unsold units" did you not understand? Face it, outside North America, nodody wants XBox 180.

Even in North America, whilst demand is considerably stronger, there is plenty of supply. I was in N.Y.C last weekend, and Game Stop has unsold new units, and also 2nd user XBox 180's

you do realize you're degrading your argument by continuing to use the term "xbox 180", yes?

you might as well just write "i hate micro$oft" or "microshaft is gay" every time you want to say "xbox 360" as you're getting the same effect.

I obviously can't go back to NYC, but it's the one across the road from Macy's

Woolworths in my local town, had 7 units when I went in last week. Out of curiosity, I asked if they had stock, or were they just display boxes, and the reply was, they had 4 core systems, a 3 full systems.

As for the 180 comment, lets face it, it is only half of what Microsoft originally promised, the other 180 got discarded in the rush to release intime for Xmas.

So you don't think the current XBox360 is what the original specs were?

Where is the HD-DVD?
Where is the next gen ATI GPU?
Where is the original spec CPU?
Where are the HDMI ports?

All the tricky (and good stuff) was removed. Hence the 180.

I'm not a Sony fanboy, I don't like consumers getting ripped off. The current XBox360 is alot of money for something that won't play next years hi-def content (even with the rumoured HD-DVD add-on, there are no HDMI ports). The current game lineups are less than stellar. Basically it's a Gen1.5 console, not a Gen2.0 console.
