Microsoft's Halo to Become Movie

By Ed Oswald | Published August 25, 2005, 11:27 AM

It's been a successful video game, and thanks to two deals signed Wednesday it could become a successful motion picture. A spokesman for Universal Pictures said that its studio, along with Twentieth Century Fox, had struck a deal with Microsoft to produce a movie based on the "Halo" and "Halo 2" video games.

The studios will pay Microsoft $5 million plus 10 percent of domestic ticket sales. According to reports, this number is lower than Microsoft wanted - the company had initially asked for $15 million and 15 percent of ticket sales. The studios hope to have the film released in the summer of 2007.

Too bad the movie won't be computer animated. It's going to be difficult to use real people and not have it suck. They'll just stick some midget in a burlap bag to play a carrier flood. That would be quite amusing. by the way, the rock sucks.

I think it is great the Halo movie is accually happening after all the talk on bungie about making one. Can't wait till Summer of 2007.

wonder how the aliens, graphics, and VEHICALS*!*!*!*

Good screenplay, scriptwriters, and cast would do the trick. Technology is fine as long as the movie focuses on the characters of Halo.

I hope that the Halo movie ROCKS as well as Jurassic Park did. It will be good to escape from the realities these days and drop into a SCI-FI BLAST!

So theyre going to make a movie based on the most overrated FPS of all time? So what.

Make it after just the first one--or before the first one. Make the movie about the station that the "Pillar of Autumn" escaped from before being annihilated. That'd be a good one. Just don't make the stupid Halo 2 storyline that was rushed because MS decided Bungie was taking too long...

I didn't know M$ had told Bungie to get on with it, but that would explain the mixed up and unfinished plot of Halo 2, and the lack of a big finish. I liked Halo 2 a lot but it was difficult to defend its messy storyline. Any movie of Halo must appeal to a much wider audience than gamers, and I suspect that means a major rewrite of the plot, and some development of MC's somewhat anonymous character. My last word on this is to keep the monk music - the musical score of Halo was an inspired move.

I bet this one will probably end up being as pathetic as the Starship Troopers 2 was... man, that movie sucks.

Halo had a good storyline. Halo 2's story seemed to be a bit of a contrivance to justify players being able to play as the Covenant in such a way that the Covenant cannot wipe out Earth. It was a bit messy and the finale was a terrible let down but the gameplay was ample compensation. Movies cannot rely on such compensations. The Halo novel was no literary masterpiece - it reads like a vacuum cleaner manual. Hopefully the script writers can beat the story into better shape and focus on the people and the drama instead of the technology. This movie could be an important work about humanity in the face of adversity and extinction, but it most likely will be an empty-scripted SFX-fest... In which case can we have Arnie as MC please?

Just what we need.... Hasn't this been tried and failed already? Oh yeah! Wing Commander. How pathetic....

Ooooh.... here's and idea.... maybe they can hire Ginger Lynn to play one of the roles in the movie and then it would not be a stretch to throw in the gratuitous sex. :)

Played Halo on the PC. Decent game, actually. Too bad the did the Console Only(tm) thing with H2...lost a sale on that one.

**Note: This comment in no way alters my opinion that a movie based on this game would not only suck rocks, but it would, in fact, 5ux0R2 j00r R0X0r2. (Does it hurt to read that as much as it hurt to type it?)

You people are forgetting the fact that some movies are there just to be fun....to take your mind off of reality. Its not gonna be the Next Shawshank, or Schindlers list movie! I mean come on....why does everybody need to make every movie into a fight for the best plot. I say screw it! I hope it is just an FX blast. It is just fun..plain and simple...fun!

The Doom movie looks like it might actually be alright. Think about it...The Rock shooting the BFG. Hard to screw that up.

Seen the trailer and it doesnt feel nor look like anything from "Doom". Actually it looked pretty weak, BUT i do hope to see the BFG, greatest weapon in any video game ever, in action as well.
