Movielink to Offer Fox Movie Downloads

By Nate Mook | Published November 21, 2005, 1:55 PM

Movielink announced on Monday that it had signed a deal with Twentieth Century Fox to offer the company's movies for download. The agreement means Movielink -- a joint venture between five Hollywood studios -- can now offer movies from all the major studios.

"Robots" and other Fox flicks will be available this week, with more titles added over the coming months. Fox previously offered content on CinemaNow.com, but said it waited on movies until broadband adoption was higher. The "Star Wars" saga will not be available online, however, as Fox only owns the theater and home video distribution rights to the films.

Too bad for me - I use SUSE Linux.

From Movielink:

"Sorry, but as of May 2, 2005, Movielink no longer supports Windows 98 and ME operating systems.
Movielink also does not support Mac or Linux.

In order to enjoy the Movielink service, you must use Windows 2000 or XP,
which support certain technologies we utilize for downloading movies."

IOW, you can only use it if your computer is virus-laden and prone to crash without reason.

Great business decision. What idiots!

Funny, my system is damn stable, with an install time of over a year and a half now, and I have not been hit by a virus since 1998. So please, explain the logic behind your post

Funny...
The link to Movielink.com refers to a page athttp://www.geodirect.net, which says the domain has expired....
Strange.

You need to quit using the ISP from the hood!

My movielink.com opens fine...

Geodirect.net here, aswell.

My ISP is Telus...which probably has the biggest fiber network in Canada.

Use that IP address, what IP address are you getting? Try doing a flushdns with ipconfig.. maybe your computer DNS needs to be updated.

I get the same error as the above people. And I am using a university network.

I have the same problem: both
http://www.movielink.com/ and
http://170.224.7.216
send me to Geodirect.net
I have tried using 3 different broadband ISP's, 2 in Canada (Shaw & Primus) and 1 in the US (Verizon using Remote Control).
What gives?

Correction - movielink worked on US ISP but not Canadian ISPs. Here is what I found from a user at dslreports.com

"All Canadian ISP's are blocking access to movielink.com and have been for years due to regulations. Also a reason why we don't get HBO channels."

Thank god for US Dish (smile). Any free high speed US proxy services, or does Canada prefer us to use BitTorrent and other P2P networks for downloading movies? Sheesh.

Well, considering the price of CD's or DVD's, downloading and burning that movie is gonna cost you $1.50! :P

Same situation here in the UK and also, I suspect Germany as my ISP has two IP address ranges with one being a redirect through Germany.
