Preview of 160 GB ClickFree backup drive

At the Digital Experience show last night, Storage Appliance Corp. previewed a new 160 GB ClickFree Automated Backup device, not set for official announcement until July 3.

NEW YORK CITY (BetaNews) - In a meeting with BetaNews at Pepcom's annual press extravaganza, Storage Appliance Corp. President Ian Collins said that, aside from offering extra storage, the new $169.99 backup device will provide the same capabilities as ClickFree's already available 120 GB external hard drive.

Collins told BetaNews that all of the products in the Canadian-based company's ClickFree line-up are designed to encourage people to back up their files by making the process a lot easier to do.

The line-up also includes DVDs specifically designed for finding on the hard drive -- and then backing up -- three types of files: Microsoft Office documents, photos, and music.

Office DVD Backup is sold in a five-pack. Photo DVD Backup and Music DVD Backup are each available both on ClickFree's Web site and in Best Buy stores in three-, five-, and 10-packs.

Online pricing is $9.99 for a three-pack, $14.99 for a five-pack, and $27.99 for a ten-pack. UK residents can buy the DVD Backup products on the Amazon.com UK Web site, and pay for them in British pounds.

Why do you post this rubbish!? This is a friggin ad for a 160GB drive while anyone who cares to read this site prob doesn't care about less than 500GB in notebook and 1TB on desktop drives.

Get away from the Norton / Symantec Products, since the 2004 editions, they are no more then a Memory Hog!

If you want a much better package and has little impact on System Resources, try ESET Smart Security (Antivirus, Firewall, Spyware and Spam Blocker)

Norton Internet Security 2007 and 2008 hardly use any memory.

They suck in plenty of other ways though. They could use 1KB of memory and I wouldn't care.

2003 was the best Norton Had: Internet Security had it all pretty much and it was not much of a Memory Cow, then:

2004: Just brought down performance of the system. (They even admitted it)
2005: Fixed issues with 2004, but still made system slug along.
2006: They made it look prettier, and took away the Ad-Blocking Feature.
2007: They made it compatible with Vista which was the only major improvement to it and "Pretty" and made Ad-Blcoking an Add-On.
2008: They made it "Prettier" still!

They must have taken their update lesson from EA Sports, each year you got like one new Stadium and some new rosters, but overall 90% of it was the same as the previous years product and you were still dumb enough to shell out another $50 for an "Upgrade".

Don't get me wrong, I was a Norton fan for years, but it's run it's time. The only one that is not a Memory Hog with them is the Corp. Edition of the AV. I have worked with that in both Work and Home and it works pretty well. Also note: I still am a Norton BETA Tester, so I get my share of their stuff to try. As a Tester with input you get the products free, so I know of which I speak!

I have found that using any external drive, including ClickFree, runs afoul with Norton software. I've had Norton virus scanning software literally fry two external hard drives of mine as well as external drives of friends. When this last happened and I returned to Best Buy with the drive, I was told by the computer department manager that this was a "regular problem" with Norton. I am curious to see if ClickFree has tackled this problem.

That's not the drive manufacturer's fault. That's a problem with Norton, my friend.

No piece of software should consistently lead to drive failure of different brands and types. If it does, GET RID OF THAT SOFTWARE.
