Safari license says non-Apple hardware installs are prohibited

In its rush to bring Safari to the Windows platform, it looks like Apple's legal department didn't quite do its job.

Apple enthusiast site 9to5mac discovered that within both the licensing agreement presented at install and the PDF which accompanies the products, Safari's license agreement still prohibits installs on computers that aren't "Apple-labeled." While this is most definitely an oversight on Cupertino's part, for the time being, any Windows install is technically illegal.

Since Bootcamp is Windows running on the Mac platform, an install of Windows Safari there would be acceptable under these terms. Legal experts say there is nothing to worry about however, as Apple cannot enforce an agreement that doesn't make sense.

Either way, it makes the folks at Cupertino look like they are not doing their homework.

I guess that means I can't attach my automatic nose hair clipper. Just have to wait until the lord god Jobs decides to make one and then run one of his brilliant yet now getting boring promotional campaigns.

This just in: Several software engineer's and lawyers were out on the streets of cupertino looking for jobs today. Signs they held said "We ****ed up badly, please hire us!"

Yay, now sue Apple for:

1) Forcing it through a routine software update
2) Making such a big legal mistake

Only in America...

I downloaded Safari and tried it out. The funny part is, it shows the index page on my own personal website with a wrong sized table at the bottom.

The other pages are duplicates of the index with different pictures and text and they all appear fine. Firefox shows them properly, as does IE5,6, and 7.

Go figure.

Well something's got to be different then (check for crazy unicode characters), or you've changed the coding recently and it's cached it.

These things don't just invent themselves.

While this is most definitely an oversight on Cupertino's part

it makes the folks at Cupertino look like they are not doing their homework.

Eh?

Since when was the city of Cupertino responsible for Apple EULAs?

In case you weren't aware, Ed; Cupertino is a city in California. Apple, Inc. is a company.

Considering how often something like this is used, I think the vast majority of people reading understood that the "folks in Cupertino" was a reference to Apple's employees involved in all of this, not necessarily all or just random people of the city of Cupertino. So, on a technicality, sure, it's a "fun" thing to point out, but in reality it's not that irrational or unusual.

It's non-specific, and pretty insulting to the folks in Cupertino when you are, in essence, blaming them for failure on Apple's part.

Just making a point. I know where Apple is located.

I know enough people in Cupertino, quite a few of which read this article, who didn't even think of it that way, let alone were insulted or affected in any way at all.

You need to know that Apple, Inc. corporate head quarters is located in Cupertino.

Reporters use Cupertino as referrence to the Apple head quarters like they use Redmond for Microsoft.

That so, Sherlock? Mighty clever deduction on your part... (IOW: Duh?)

Reporters use Cupertino as referrence to the Apple head quarters like they use Redmond for Microsoft.

Who says I don't hate the use of Redmond (the City) to describe Microsoft?

It's not that hard, folks. One is a city, and one is a company.

an oversight on Cupertino's part

Carries with it implications. If I lived in Cupertino, I'd be pissed. They had nothing to do with it.

Yes, this is true. It's also impossible for them to actually act on the EULA.

Still, it is funny.

I popped a Apple sticker on my laptop, though, just to be sure.
