Sony: PS3 Supplies to Improve by May
By Ed Oswald | Published February 28, 2007, 10:55 AM
Those wishing to get their hands on Sony's PlayStation 3 should have no problem by May, as the company said it was on track to ship two million consoles by the end of next month, and be able to meet demand soon after.
Executives also seem to be disputing claims by some gaming sites that unsold PlayStation 3's are common across the country, pointing to locations that have been sold out since the console's launch in November.
Sony has slowly begun to make up ground, selling some 244,000 units of the PS3 during January. However, it is still far behind Nintendo Wii sales of 436,000 consoles, and slightly trailed the Xbox 360, which tallied sales of 249,000 units.
Altogether, Sony expects to ship six million PS3s by the end of March.
Much of the problem, many analysts say, is the PS3's price. At either $499 or $599 USD, it is $200 more expensive than the Xbox 360, and more than twice the price of the Wii. Additionally, Sony's arrogance about its product is also an issue among some buyers, they say.
While Sony has cut prices in Japan, it has repeatedly said it was satisfied with the price in the United States.
Hey fernz,
Here is what a pathetic person does with his time. If you read his posts, not one says anything about how great his BD player is. It's just a bunch of HD-DVD bashing. Judging by all the exclamation points, I think he came in his shorts.

This is the true sign of a loser with nothing better to do with his time. He refers to the BD format as "ours" in a couple posts.

|hahahaha... you are tooo funny Hollywood___
You make this too easy for me.
"...Here is what a pathetic person does with his time." "...This is the true sign of a loser with nothing better to do with his time"
Do mean spend his time looking for posts that other people submitted on different sites?
Or do you mean not have a life and comment on everything and anything people say about Sony, ps3, blue-ray, or fanboy?
You should really try to spend your time doing something a little more productive. Maybe you should try to find a girl. Have all the girls at adultfriendfinder.com rejected you already?

|I'm yet another guy in the US that can say that here in Southeast Texas, there are quite a few PS3's in stock at Gamestop, and the two local Wal-Marts have at least 6 each that I could see.
Can't speak for the rest of the country though...

|"..I just love to aggravate fanboys."
I just don't get it. Why? Because they try to rub their crazy views in people's faces how much better Sony or PS3 are? But aren’t you doing the same thing?
"...you need to not worry about other people so much."
Good advise, you ever thought about that for yourself?

|They have been in stock around here at every store since mid January, only the 60GB though.
fernz33, you need to not worry about other people so much. I could care less what other people think, I just love to aggravate fanboys.

|Bla, bla, bla, PS3, bla, bla, bla Wii, bla, bla, bla 360!
You people seriously need to get a life!
So what if Sony screwed up their launch & now has ps3's on the shelves. So what if the ps3 is the best all around machine. So what if the wii has sold more but is still a kids machine, so what if the 360 has the game of the year. So what if the 360 will come in 1st or 2nd or 3rd, or 100th!
Stop this stupid BLA BLA BLA whenever this site mentions Sony.
YOU ARE ALL LOOOOOSSSEEERRRRSSSS ! ! ! ! ! !

|And you're wasting your keystrokes to go on a 5 paragraph rant telling fanboys why they're losers.
And really, it always matters to them who is better because if the console they own does better, they get better/more games. Not to mention the companies themselves and their investors.
If you don't care, great. Why read all the whiny comments that you claim to hate and then whine about them?

|I have seen them in stock in So California for sometime now. Nice try Sony.

|Same here. I have seen at least two PS3's at every Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Circuit City I've been to since the first week of January. Many times, I have seen four or five of them. That is no exaggeration.
I honestly have no idea what shortage Sony is talking about.
Score: 0
|BTW, if you want proof, go search "Playstation 3 consoles" on ebay. If there were a shortage, you'd see a PREMIUM on the prices. There isn't one. They're selling for retail. There is no greater proof than the free market.

|And if you look at the Salerank on Amazon for Sales rank of the primary systems, it shows as soon as the PS3 comes into stock at Amazon, the salerank goes up, as soon as it sales out, the salerank drops, but WII and 360 are constant.

|PS3 is going to be the biggest bust of this generation, and Nintendo will reclaim its throne.
Trends don't change. Nintendo is #1 right now and there is no reason it will fall. 3rd party games are only going to get better and better because developers are going to focus on making games for the #1 seller of systems.

|Let them ramp up production and when their warehouses get full of unsold product then they will reduce the price of the PS3 to help reduce inventory.

|I screwed up, this was in response to Joey Deacon's post below:
You're right and wrong. Yes because you see something in stock does not always mean it isn't selling. But PS3s are still in short supply right now (hence this article) and their shipments are sporadic. Hence when you're seeing a lot of PS3s in supply at stores, and you still see them in supply again the next week, their's a damn good chance they're the same ones.
Sounds to me like someone is trying to justify their $600 purchase to others....
Score: 0
|So the answer is what, if you put them in the candy aisle, and at the checkout stand, people will make impulse buys? Come on. There is no shortage! Supply > Demand, simple as that. Stories about shortages don't pass muster. It's cute, and good marketing, but it doesn't pass the stink test.

|Funny thing is, people seem to think that In Stock == not selling.
Has anyone checked serial numbers? The units they saw last week are different to the units they saw this week I guarentee it.
If peoples measure of not selling, is how many units are on shelfs (with no knowledge of stock movement), then by than measure, the 360 must be the biggest flop going, as it's in stock everywhere I go...
Seems people need to either understand basic economics, or stop spreading their fanboy nonsense..
