Trillian Set to Release Mac Client

Cerulean Studios said Friday that it was in the process of developing a version of its client for the Mac, encroaching on territory long occupied by competitor Adium. Trillian did for Windows what Adium does for Mac - allow the user to load one program for multiple instant messaging clients. Cerulean has released an alpha build of the client, which it says is roughly the same as a flash-based version of the client, which basically allows for simple IM.
With the new v4.x iterations of Trillian, the codebase was separated from the user interface, which was made platform-agnostic. Thus, the Mac OS X version will have all the features of the Windows version, however, it will be affected by the limitations of the UI. Cerulean said that as the UI is developed, these features will appear in the Mac client.
I am been a Trillian User since they were at version 0.7x. Personally, I did "Donate" to the cause.
The fact that it is / was all the major clients integrated into one interface to me was worth the donation.
Yea it did get a little buggy and bloated in the middle versions, but with Astra hitting soon (Hopefully) and integrating more IM Clients (AOL, ICQ, Google Talk, MySpace, Windows Live, Yahoo and Bonjour) will make it a standard:

|I switched from Trillian to Pidgin after Trillian just became too clunky. I hope Trillian returns to its small, fast, roots, they've allowed it to become too large and clunky.

|I like trillian a lot better than pidgin. I've tried to run it under Wine, but no success, so I used pidgin on my linux box and trillian on windows.
I have used the new version of Trillian called "astra". I believe that it is still in alpha, but I didn't really like the look and feel, plus they make you authenticate to a server via another port, which isn't open on my corporate network - so I reverted back to version 3.

|Heh....I would assume Windows would have more "limitations of the UI" than OS X.

|What do you mean, Merlyn_3D? I'm just curious, as I am a recent convert to Mac. It was over a year since I used Trillian, and it was on a Dell system. I found it limiting back then. If it has improved I would use it again. I have found it problematic to find a good IM program for my Mac.

|Pidgin formally GAIM, MSN Messenger is poorly programmed for OS X, ichat is great for .mac and aim accounts. I have never even heard of Adium. Bought my mac less then a year ago. Gotta say it wasn't hard to fill the 120 GB hard drive with quality software that isn't buggy. Today my computer froze for the first time, while using CrossCode to emulate IE6 (need it for a class I am taking).
