Wii to Launch in Holiday Quarter

Nintendo said Tuesday that it will make its next-generation console, dubbed the Nintendo Wii, available in the fourth quarter of this year. The timing of the console means its release will occur at roughly the same time as Sony's PlayStation 3, expected to launch on November 17 in North America.

Nintendo of America's executive vice president Reggie Fils-Aime made the announcement at the company's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Fils-Aime declined to specify pricing, saying instead that those details would be provided later this year. To support the launch of the Wii, Nintendo will be making available the next installment of the "Legend of Zelda" series, he said.

Can you imagine?

"Dude, I've got Mario on my WII! Who cares, I've got Zelda on MY WII!"

Oh boy, I like Nintendo but what are they thinking?

Always been a nintendo fan just because they focus on pure "Entertainment w.r.t. Games" Nintendo does it quite well. I am not interested in if the console could play movies, dvds, mp3s, bla blah, it is Games and "Fun" and Nintendo has amazed me with this new upcoming console too, and the prior games were quite amusing and entertaining and the upcoming ones seem to be worth it.
Gonna get it when it is available.

VERY much so from the videos I saw. Fantastic controllers--makes the PS3 controller look like a kid's toy. Before you disagree, well Tom thought the same thing: http://www.tgdaily.com/2...oller_wimpy_against_wii/

Man...after seeing this, I might actually consider buying a 'Wii' console. Man, Nintendo really screwed up the name, but the game looks frikin awesome. I'm sure the price will be too. Since I don't plan to buy the supercalafragisexy HDTV multimegamaxi3D resolution supervisions (1080p), I could care less about the fact that it is only 480p.

Man, amazing how quickly my mind changed about the winner of the 7th gen. console wars--Nintendo may grab the majority right under our noses. Kinda sneaky--I like it!

Haven't found a decent game on Nintendo since the Supernintendo and Contra! Now that was a game..

But other games are much better now, but Nintendo, I don't find anything "entertaining" about it, since Metroid went 3-D.

it better have wavebird support because nobody I know likes the "TV remote" controllere style.

It will have Wavebird support for Gamecube games. But I would imagine most Wii games will take advantage of the new Wiiremote. I wouldn't knock it till you try it. It seems to really open up the possibilities of getting involved the games more instead of mindlessly punching buttons. I think its worth considering trying something new than the same old thing generation after generation. Games need to grow to remain popular, not stay stuck in the mud as basically Sony and MS seem to think. Graphics are only one aspect of gameplay.
