Windows 3.1 installed on Nokia N95

By Tim Conneally | Published February 23, 2009, 2:46 PM

Polish bulletin board FrazPC last night received a post from developer and writer Marcin-PRV showing that he can successfully run Windows 3.1 simultaneously with Symbian S60 on a Nokia N95.

This feat could not normally be done by the N95's ARM processor, but thanks to an emulator known as DOSBox for Symbian, the ARM chip emulates the x86 architecture...a 486, to be exact, according to Marcin.

"developer and writer Marcin-PRV", eh? Marcin-PRV hasn't done anything that hasn't been done before. People have been installing Windows 3.1 in DOSBox for years.

The big news here is that DOSBox has been ported to S60, something that Marcin-PRV didn't do, but kolijoco. Marcin-PRV didn't write anything, he just did what others already done before, but on a different platform, thanks to kolijoco.

Marcin-PRV is a copycat. kolijoco is a developer.

I'll be impressed when a preemptive multitasking OS like NT 3.51 or NT4 gets ported.

What they fail to mention is that minutes after completing the installation of Windows 3.1, Marcin-PRV got a BSOD and has now been on the phone with an outsourced Microsoft tech-support guy for eighteen hours trying find his way out.

And of course the call cost him $59.95

Yeah, the last picture is definately windows 95 cause the start menu was a "new" feature for windows 95. It also has different style to the other photos...

That last picture looks like Windows 95. Windows 3.1 didn't have a start menu. What's up with that, Tim?

Whoops! I have a bunch of pics from that guy and I u/l'ed one of the wrong ones...he also showed it almost fully running Windows 95. He said it was about 95% done (how appropriate.)
