Woot.com Offers Zune for $149.99

Discount site Woot.com has somehow managed to acquire enough white Zune players to sell them at a $100 discount from Microsoft's suggested retail price. For as long as supplies last, a new Zune player can be had for $149.99 plus $5 shipping.

Woot typically sells older items or those that have been overstocked and sitting on store shelves. The deal could be an indicator that Microsoft is trying to clear out stock in preparation for new models of the Zune that could arrive before the holidays. Either way, it's a great opportunity for those who have wanted a cheap portable audio player and aren't a fan of Apple products.

Maybe at $14.99, but I don't have any interest beyond that. I travel and meet with hundreds of clients and not one has a Zune. MS really needs to rethink their marketing strategy.

Selling on Woot was their marketing strategy.

Woot actually sold out of them. I was a tad surprised to see that when I looked last night.

Will someone, anyone, admit to owning a Zune? Maybe someone who bought Microsoft 'Bob'? I've still never seen anyone in public, in airports, or on campus carry one. Not a single Zune.

I love my Zune! Every iPod user I've ever handed it to has said it is easier to use than their iPod. The Zune Marketplace subscription rules! I love being able to grab anything without worrying about how much it costs. If I really like an album I'll shell out the bucks at a brick-n-mortar shop to get the art and liner notes. My Zune has totally rekindled my love of new music.

I travel heavily and often. I meet with hundreds of clients throughout a given year. I have seen a handful of iPhones, not hundreds, a handful. I have only seen one Zune anywhere outside of a retail outlet. That was in an airport. That was in July.

I never have seen anyone with an iphone either, must mean they don't exist and its failed.

I have seen several people with Zunes though at work and on campus.

how is it a ripoff?

It has a larger storage then ipod, plays movies, pictures and music. Has a cleaner interface IMO. The sound quality is better as well.

So how exactly is this a piece of stuff?

What the hell are you talking about....

Larger storage - iPods have storage capacity of 30, 60, 80, 160 depending on model.

iPods play Movies, show pictures, and play music.

Pimpin' woot now. Nice. Woot got so many of them, they didn't sell out in the first 12 hours. Or maybe they aren't that popular... hmmm.

Thats the beauty of choice, im sure the price put many people off and now they are more appealing.

Its quite normal to sell the older model when you upgrade it, just ask Sony. Guess if its limited to one site and not in every store it cant be so bad.
