Yahoo, Symantec Partner on Net Security

Yahoo and Symantec announced a partnership on Tuesday that will promote the company's Internet security products to Yahoo's users. Several Yahoo services would be enhanced with online versions of Symantec products, including Yahoo Mail, Toolbar and HotJobs. Additionally a co-branded version of Norton Internet Security will be offered.

A 30-day trial of the program will be offered, and users will be able to purchase a 12-month subscription at the conclusion of the trial for a promotional fee of USD $49.99. The service will be marketed throughout the Yahoo network, and will be freely available for download from the Yahoo Web site.

"Symantec and Yahoo! share a vision of protecting consumers online and we are thrilled to partner to offer Symantec products to Yahoo!'s audience of hundreds of millions globally," Symantec consumer products group president Enrique Salem said.

Norton-enhanced online Yahoo products include a spyware scanner for Yahoo Toolbar, and Antivirus Scan for resume uploads in HotJobs and e-mail attachments in Yahoo Mail. Furthermore, Norton will offer a co-branded version of Yahoo Toolbar to its customers, and Yahoo will update its Online Protection service to use Norton products.

"Internet security is important to our Yahoo! users and by working with Symantec we are bringing the comfortable security blanket that their Norton brand services provide to consumers around the world," Yahoo product management director Stephen Miller said.
