Yahoo Messenger Beta Takes On Skype

With Microsoft recently adding voice over IP capabilities to MSN Messenger and AOL readying a new AIM client with similar functionality, voice has become the new buzzword of IM. Yahoo has now joined the mix, launching a beta version of Yahoo Messenger 7, which hopes to capture some of the success enjoyed by Skype.

Extremely popular in Europe, Skype recently surpassed 100 million downloads and the company rolled out two premium features for voicemail and dialing standard telephones. Unlike Skype, however, Yahoo Messenger will focus on free PC-to-PC calling among buddy list contacts.

The company did not specify if it planned to add pay features into the VoIP service, but left the possibility open.

Yahoo Messenger 7.0 will offer drag-and-drop photo sharing that enables users to create slideshows in real time. The company said it decided to beef up Messenger's photo capabilities because 80 percent of file transfers made by users were images.

Following a similar approach taken by Microsoft with MSN Spaces, Yahoo Messenger will also keep users apprised of any changes to buddies' Yahoo 360 blogs. Other features include spam and virus protection, as well as an improved address book interface.

sir, i can not any text when i use
chating to my frined i can not saw any
text in my messenger window , only white
page display when i write something ex.
how are you? or he reply me i cant saw
the text so please give me some guidence
or solve this problem as early as
possibel.hoping for a favourable reply..

i have used yahoo beta 7.0 but i chat another person i cant read his text and only white screen display so give me some suggestion please. thank you very much

Is Beta (yahoo)suitable for pc-pc phone communication in the middle east area , because your latest yahoo messenger version was not working properly in that regard

hey folks this is the PERFECT STEP-WISE SOLUTION:
1. download http://www.codec-archiv....[Codec-Download.de].zip
2. unzip to c:\windows\system32
3. rename your old tssoft32.acm to tssoft32OLD.acm
4. rename the new unzipped file tssoft32[Codec-Download.de].acm to tssoft32.acm
5.check whether this tssoft32.acm shows up in device manager->sounds-videos-codec->audio codecs->>properties
6.now remove your old yahoo messenger setup with COMPLETE remove option (WARNING:do not repair or use advanced remove)
7.download and /or INSTALL the ymsgr7us.exe from http://us.dl1.yimg.com/d...l/msgr7/us/ymsgr7us.exe
8. HURRAH ENJOY PERFECT VOICE CHAT..and send me a e-mail folks

while yahoo messenger 7.0 beta is an update from privious virsions it seems to have several problems still needing attenchen. the new call feture is neat BUT it becomes chopy and chipmonkish at times, and i seem to be having troble longing on to it; i long on but cannot do anything till i long off and log on again some time having to do this repetadly, and unlike older virsions you cannot click on to any name on your friend list to open am IM and alter the screen name, some peoples' profiles do not have the ONLINE feture to click on, so it cuts down on some of the people to talk to.

this program seems to work but its got megga bugs and glitches. if i have more than two ims open at the same time it always gives me an error message that says "yahoo messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close" and it closes out of the program. i dont know if this is something that you can fix or if it is just me pc which i dont think it is. If you have ne ideas how to stop this then please send me an email and let me know.

Come on guys... Yahoo!! can never match the superb quality of Skype. And for PC to Phone calls its got to use some third party service.

Skype is the ruler and I have been using it extensively since I came to know about the app. I dumped Yahoo voice coz it was using an intermediate server to transfer voice.. Its not P2P voice chat. The sound quality is POOR..in Yahoo.
