  1. Review - Advanced SystemCare Free

    3.0 Beta 3.1.0 (Sep 11, 2008)

Apparently SoftPedia disagrees with the claims of malware embedded in the sofware.

    http://www.softpedia.com...wsCare-Clean-23169.html

3/5 because I have not fully tried it myself, but I didn't want others to avoid it based on mis-informed claims.

  2. Review - Damn Small Linux

    4.0 RC1 (Aug 14, 2007)

E.T. - keep in mind the goal of this software is to offer a complete OS package with software, and still remain 50MB or less. In order to do that, some things have to be sacraficed - in this case visuals. The menus don't have to be flashy to be effective.

As far as my review of DSL, I have no choice but to give it 5/5. I use this mainly to access harddrives that no longer function correctly (or have file systems destroyed beyond repair) in order to recover data to a USB drive or FTP folder. It has saved me, and others I've helped, countless times from complete data loss.

  3. Review - FastStone Capture

    5.0 Beta (Dec 30, 2006)

I downloaded this yesterday (the updated version) and I must say I love it. It's great being able to simply grab any area of any screen as an image, and then further modify it if needed right within the program. Granted the image editor isn't superior compared to things like PhotoShop, but it gets the job done. Also, in reference to the below review:

"Good capture program but the "scrolling windows capture" (the most interesting feature) only works correctly with IE, the program fails to capture horizontally in opera & firefox during scrolling capture."

I have absolutely no problems with the scrolling feature in Firefox. I'm running the most recent versions of both (Firefox and FastStone). Great little program... keep up the good work!

  4. Review - ComiX

    0.1 Beta 1 (Aug 12, 2005)

Very cool. I don't know what problem the user below is having, but so far I've gotten everything to come up flawlessly. Both color and B&W comics... sweet deal. This will give me something to kill time with at work! After I use it a while I'll try to post some suggestions and more feedback. (The 4 is only because this is obviously still in beta, and its comic selection is very limited.)

EDIT: To those of you having problems... do you have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed?

SUGGESTION: You should implement a way to send the images to a printer... that way if you come across one you like, you can print it out (rather than cutting it out of the newspaper).

  5. Review - TweakNow RegCleaner Standard

    2.0.9 (Jun 21, 2005)

    Review from c|net's Download.com:

"This excellent, free utility makes the potentially daunting prospect of cleaning your PC's registry safe and simple. The interface is straightforward, and most users will probably only need the Scan and Remove buttons. The settings are configured for immediate use, although you may exclude some registry branches and references to removable drives from the scan. In case something goes wrong after deletion, you can quickly restore the removed keys. The program also gives you an additional safety cushion by pointing out keys that are not 100 percent safe to delete. In our tests, the utility found and removed hundreds of junk entries in minutes, making it a worthy download for just about any home user, especially those less technically inclined."

  6. Comment - Mandriva Accuses Microsoft of Dirty Tactics

    2.0.9 (Nov 1, 2007 - 6:03 PM)

"Who wants to be locked into Linux and all its proprietary formats and protocols?"

Did he really just say that?

  7. Comment - Nintendo Offers Coats for Wiimotes

    2.0.9 (Oct 5, 2007 - 9:56 AM)

I too commend Nintendo for taking an active approach. Besides, is it their fault if you fling your controller through a wall because you don't use the strap? Is it their fault if a friend, child, pet, walks up behind you and gets whacked in the head? In my opinion, it's no different that swinging a baseball bat. It's not the manufacturer's fault if you're not aware of your surroundings.

A friend of mine launched one of my wii-motes across my living room. Do I blame Nintendo? No... he was the dumb*** that didn't want to mess with putting the lanyard on. Nintendo shouldn't be held responsible for irresponsible people... though I'm sure eventually someone will attempt to hold them so.

  8. Comment - Toyota Signs On to Massive In-Game Ads

    2.0.9 (Jul 24, 2006 - 1:24 PM)

More than likely the ads will be more along the lines of those found in racing games, or shooters, such as billboards or signs/posters. I doubt it will be as drastic as adding major content, as the article directly says "any placed advertising does not affect the gameplay".

  9. Comment - Google to IE Users: Try Firefox

    2.0.9 (Apr 27, 2006 - 10:58 AM)

Same here... I love adblock. I don't dislike Internet Explorer, I just love the simplicity of a freshly installed instance of Firefox. Granted, in bare-bones form it doesn't offer as much as IE, but that's fine. Firefox lets me choose what functionality I want to install, and do so through the use of extensions. Now, with the IETab extension, I rarely need to open IE at all.

  10. Comment - eBay 'Express' to Offer Instant Buying

    2.0.9 (Jan 19, 2006 - 5:29 PM)

I use it quite a bit and seem to have good luck finding what i want to buy and selling my own stuff. I have no idea what the traffic statistics show though, so I couldn't say if it's died off any. I actually don't mind it being part of eBay though, as it puts feedback and other shared information in one place.
