I have to disagree somewhat with the prior review. I'm currently running the previous version of Solaris 10 on an x86 laptop (Gateway 9500) and the SPARC version on a SPARC-based laptop. Sun currently is featuring AMD processors on most of their hardware, so, I'm certain this runs on those. As for configuration, there was some to have Sol see my particular video card in the Gateway, but, other than that, it uses Gnome just like most Linux distros. The new features like DTrace and others make this worth a try. It's great if you like to tinker, but, if you don't, you should still be able to get started with a basic install. BTW, this doesn't run on "mainframes". Servers, yes. But not "mainframes".
