  1. Review - Spyware Doctor

    4.0.0.2621 (Jan 3, 2007)

I had read great things about Spyware Doctor and its detection / cleaning capabilities. I tried out the trial version and was quite impressed with the results. The practically daily updates are a great incentive for purchasing a subscription, which I did.

However, the program, like a few have pointed out here, is a tad too resource hungry and slows the system down considerably. I think that once they decide to address this issue, they've got a great contender here. For the time being, I've sought out other leading spyware protection programs that are a bit lighter on the system load.

  2. Review - Windows Live Mail

    8.0.1172 Beta (Nov 18, 2006)

This is quite the substantial improvement over the previous beta version. The sign-in screen is smaller and the small changes to the colors and layout make everything a lot easier to navigate. Best of all, it does function much quicker than before. My only real gripe like so many is that giant ad they place to the right. Besides that, I'm looking forward to the final version.

  3. Review - Windows Live Mail

    8.0.1034 Beta (Oct 9, 2006)

I agree that the giant ad is inconvenient, but I suppose that can be alleviated by allowing the Active Search to stay on. Then again, if one is paranoid about it skimming through keywords in your e-mail it's just plain inconvenient either way.

My only real complaint is when it forcibly opens an IE window from a link despite Firefox being my default browser.

Aside from that, it looks great and has plenty of features. If this is the next iteration of Outlook Express, count me in.

  4. Review - AbiWord for Windows

    2.1.5 (Aug 18, 2004)

I used to use AbiWord before I discovered OpenOffice which is a much more robust offering. However, if one has no need for an entire office suite, AbiWord has been and remais an excellent freeware no-frills alternative word processor.

  5. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Windows (v2)

    0.9.1 (Jun 29, 2004)

Thunderbird has also been updated. http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

  6. Comment - CES 'Better Questions' contest: Win Vista Ultimate, CS3, Zune and more

    0.9.1 (Jan 2, 2008 - 8:19 PM)

    To Microsoft:

Considering the favorable reception the second Zune generation has been receiving, where do they see themselves taking the device in terms of embracing new, emerging and untapped technologies for the Zune's future incarnations?

  7. Comment - NPD: Wii Outsells Xbox, PS3 in January

    0.9.1 (Feb 21, 2007 - 5:57 PM)

I think this is a great example that it's also important to focus on the "fun" aspect when it comes to game consoles.

Nothing against Microsoft or Sony and their respective systems, but Nintendo has a console here that, while not the powerhouses the other two are, is a great diversion that anyone of almost any age can enjoy by themselves or with their friends and family without requiring too much effort in terms of learning how to pick it up quickly and play.

  8. Comment - Caption Contest: Win Vista and Office!

    0.9.1 (Jan 30, 2007 - 5:46 PM)

Gates: Vista's service packs will likely be THIS big.

Ballmer: Ain't nobody dope as Vista, it's just so fresh so clean.

  9. Comment - AIM Update Adds Bundled AOL Browser
