  1. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.50 Build 9500 Alpha 1 (Sep 4, 2007)

Very nice. Still Alpha, and has some bugs to iron out, but VERY fast, and site compatability has been improved lots.

It's also supporting many CSS3 features now, and the bookmark sync behind the covers is excellent. I would expect the Opera Mobile to be able to pickup these sync'd items very soon!

  2. Review - NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System)

    2.25 (Apr 2, 2007)

We used to use Installshield Pro for many years, and it was horrendous. We had a list of install defects as long as our arms, developers always had issues creating installs, and if you wanted to do anything outside the norm, you were asking for trouble.

We switched to NSIS, 2.5 years ago, we now have no serious install defects, and everything runs smoothly, if we need to do anything out of the norm, it's a doddle using plugins.

Moving to NSIS was the best decision we ever made.

  3. Review - Ubuntu

  4. Review - Opera for Windows

    Build 8758 Beta (Mar 23, 2007)

Excellent as usual, this weeks weekly is much more stable that last week. Seems they are close to a 9.20 release.

As for Javascript speed, check out javascript benchmarks, Opera wipes the floor with everything including IE7 and FF when it comes to javascript speed.

For anyone considering these, these are ALPHA quality, not even beta or release candidate, expect bugs...

  5. Comment - LG Promises New, True Hybrid High-Def Disc Player

    Build 8758 Beta (Sep 6, 2007 - 10:47 AM)

BD+ is not changing, current players support it, the standard is finalised, Profile 1.1 players have the same BD+ implementation.

    You are basically spreading FUD.

  6. Comment - LG Promises New, True Hybrid High-Def Disc Player

    Build 8758 Beta (Sep 6, 2007 - 6:59 AM)

Why the name calling? The guy is obviously an idiot if he thinks Profile 1.1 capable players are not backwards and forwards capable.

Put simply, so even idiots can understand.

Profile 1.1 players will play all the Blu-Ray content available today and in the future.

Non-Profile 1.1 players will play all Blu-Ray movies available today and in the future.

Non-Profile 1.1 players will NOT play profile 1.1 features on future discs, but will play all current capabilities, as they do today.

So a non-profile 1.1 player will work excactly the same as it does today, no change. Future players can play expanded future content.

Many non profile 1.1 players can be updated to Profile 1.1 units. (mainly 2nd Gen and PS3).

  7. Comment - LG Promises New, True Hybrid High-Def Disc Player

    Build 8758 Beta (Sep 6, 2007 - 4:53 AM)

Non proflile BD 1.1 won't be obsolete in 6 months. Are you some kind of idiot? They will still play content, just not access the profile 1.1 extras.

If anything is not going to be around in 6 months, it's HD DVD format.

This player, do you think they added the ethernet port for fun? Google the specs, and you will see the decoder is capable of dual decoding requried for 1.1.

This is the same scenario as the new Samsung and Sony PS3 and new standalone players, they have all the hardware for profile 1.1, and the firmware update to enable it will follow in due course.

  8. Comment - Blu-ray/HD DVD Combo Discs Delayed

    Build 8758 Beta (Jun 29, 2007 - 4:32 PM)

His post seems to have hit a raw nerve.. LOL...

    In Summary, Blu-Ray releases 83,000 to 17,000 titles, HD-DVD releases 37,000 to 7,000

That's pretty poor show from HD-DVD. They may be selling more dedicated hardware, at present, but that means squat, as the media is not selling...
