  1. Review - Dial-a-fix

    0.57.7 (Mar 16, 2006)

Heh! Someone posted Medium for me. Anyway, "Medium" is just Light + the secedit package (http://DjLizard.net/software/secedit-sfx.exe) - so that people can use the permissions repair tool without having to download the huge Full version.

If you have any problems opening System Restore, Event Viewer, Help and Support, and even Internet Explorer, look here: http://djlizard.net/2006/03/14/139

There is a bug in the new mshtml.dll that comes from Microsoft KB article # 912945 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=912945). This is not a problem with Dial-a-fix. Hooray!

mjm01010101: This just in: it's Microsoft's fault! Fortunately, it wasn't Dial-a-fix. This could even happen if a Microsoft MVP told you to register mshtml.dll (which is a common fix). So, all stability has returned (well, it never left) and all is well again. It sucks that this whole debacle has made me look bad :)

rcutnik: Since I discovered what was causing all the issues (see above), the OLE section and the unregistration option is safe to put back in again (I never really thought it was unsafe in the first place, I was just trying to minimize collateral damage).

  4. Review - Dial-a-fix

I thought it would have went without saying that there are some things that are out of the scope of Dial-a-fix, such as corrupted registry hives, missing or corrupted system files, and so forth. Nowhere in the Microsoft Knowledge Base does it say that registering a DLL (which is just a registry key write, by the way) or starting services which should have been started already could ever *cause* issues.

Jim, if you would like support, feel free to email me about it. It sounds like you may need to perform a 'repair install' of your operating system.

  5. Review - Dial-a-fix

    0.57.3 (Feb 22, 2006)

:sigh: I'd like everyone to note that there /is/ a light version which is exactly for 56k users. And no, Dial-a-fix is not for problems you don't know you have. Who /are/ these reviewers? :P
