  1. Review - Eraser

    5.87 Beta 1 (May 22, 2008)

The best (and free!) erasing program for Windows (including Vista). This project has been around for a number of years and only gets better with each release (except the one which dropped Win98 support!)

To reidyn: "carefully selected patterns" refers to Peter Gutmann's method of data erasure. It includes eight passes of psuedorandom data along with 27 data pattern writes. All of this information is available in Eraser's help file. Please read it before the next time you write a review like that.

FYI Eraser includes an option to overwrite with pseudorandom data up to 65535 times.

  2. Comment - Recording artists claim their music is being boycotted over royalties

    5.87 Beta 1 (Jun 10, 2009 - 8:42 PM)

Bendall commented, "Even more offensive is the effort to silence artists through threats and retribution. No one should ever be penalized for working for what they think is right, for participating in the democratic process, for exercising their First Amendment right to correct a decades-old wrong. But that is just what these radio stations have done."

    ------------

Oh yeah, Bendall? Well guess who else has First Amendment rights...radio station program directors! These radio stations MADE YOU and now that you are raking in the dough you want even more. Guess what? I totally agree with NAB/radio stations' stance on this.

If the mainstream artists (who, again, were made mainstream by the radio stations in the crosshairs) want it their way, then I say these stations start airing royalty-free indie musicians! And if that happens I'll say it's about damn time!

And they want to talk democracy? Payola my friends, payola. Essentially "votes" are bought/bartered for by record companies to PDs to get airplay. If they want democracy lets put their music in a playlist that is 100,000+ tracks long. If/when that happens lets see how much money they rake in then!

  3. Comment - Recording artists claim their music is being boycotted over royalties

    5.87 Beta 1 (Jun 10, 2009 - 8:31 PM)

Radio = advertising. I would not hear of nor would others who recommend music to me if it were not for mass media airplay. So f*ck the artists for complaining about free advertising.

These little punks whine about getting their music played while the struggling artist CAN'T get their music played because of payola. Gotta love it!

  4. Comment - Fate of webcast RIAA trial to be decided today

    5.87 Beta 1 (Jun 6, 2009 - 4:23 PM)

    I forgot to say...

If the judges are smart during the hearing they'll realize there is a little part in the Constitution called the Eighth amendment. It deals with excessive fines/punishments which this case CLEARLY is.

  5. Comment - Fate of webcast RIAA trial to be decided today

    5.87 Beta 1 (Jun 6, 2009 - 4:20 PM)

I hope Mr. Tenenbaum is able to get a jury trial for this civil case. If this is then I would hope his Harvard Law legal team is aware of Jury Nullification. http://fija.org/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jury_nullification for more info.

As far as the RIAA...what a bunch of pansies. So they don't want this trial to be public/broadcast on the Internet, huh? That's fascinating how all of a sudden they are pro-privacy when it comes to their situation!

  6. Comment - Comcast swaps HD quality for quantity

    5.87 Beta 1 (Apr 3, 2008 - 12:57 AM)

I swear Comcast never ceases to piss me off.

I for one cannot wait until FiOS is available in my neighborhood. TV, phone and internet...I am there. See ya later Comcast...nice knowing ya you monopolistic pie eaters!

We have an HDTV for VIDEO QUALITY. With 57 inches at our disposal WE WILL NOTICE THE DROP IN QUALITY. Get rid of those crap channels like TV One, Hallmark, Soapnet, Encore 10, Encore 12, Encore 20 (get my point), get rid of the stuff that doesn't get many ratings.

Crap, to be fair get rid of some of those Discovery Channel channels. I think they're taking up enough bandwidth to feed a third world TV nation.

In reality Comcast is just taking the easy road of cutting down quality instead of giving every subscriber a digital converter box at no cost so they they can go 100% digital. That move would really free up some bandwidth but they don't want to cut into their profit margin. Oh no, that would be terrible!

They may very well just have to and by that time I will already be a Verizon customer.
