1.14 Beta 2 (Mar 6, 2006)
I am very happy with Burrrn because it is a small and simple program which does the disk-at-once burning which I need for operas. I am using Burrrn version 1.14 beta 2 with XP home SP2. There is a convenient "disk info" button which verifies that you have a blank disk in the drive and it tells you the capacity of the disk in minutes. After adding files to the burn list you can drag and drop them to get them in the correct order. The total length of all files to be burned is given in a box on the RHS of the window so you can verify that you are not trying to put too much music on the disk. I had to uncheck all the boxes under settings/replay-gain because the default setting with "dither" gave noisy recordings with my wav files. I had been using Nero Express 5.5 on my old computer but it is an OEM version which would not transfer to my new computer and I did not want to buy a copy of the latest Nero bloatware. I find Burrrn to be easier to use than Nero and a lot smaller. I am using Burrrn in conjunction with AudioGrabber, a free ripper, which does an excellent job of avoiding the copy protection that is often inserted in CD recordings of operas. Nero 5.5 could not deal with the copy protection problems so the combo of AudioGrabber and Burrn is very simple and much more effective than Nero.
