  1. Review - Ubuntu

    9.10 (Nov 14, 2009)

Hmm, this is the flakiest version of Ubuntu I've ever used, it shows all the signs of having being rushed out before it was ready. It didn't work with my CD-ROM drive so I had to swap with another computer to get the live CD to work, then the installer crashed half way through the install, then Grub froze and didn't respond to the keyboard... OOo is clunky and horrible and the overall performance is slow and generally below par.

    Merry Christmas Mr Gates!

  2. Review - PDF-XChange Viewer

    2.0.42.5 (Oct 21, 2009)

The rendering engine isn't as good as Adobe's but other than that this is very useful indeed, the raster export quality is especially impressive.

  3. Review - OpenOffice.org for Windows

    3.2 Beta (Oct 20, 2009)

It's still a wee bit slow to start in Windows, but that's the only bad thing I can say about it. With a simple add-on it even edits PDFs now, in addition to creating them. There's no two ways about it, this is awesome. Calc still lags a little way behind Excel, but for 99.99% of purposes there's nothing in it, and Writer is quite the wordprocessor of the moment, with some pretty impressive DTP capabilities.

  4. Review - Inkscape for Windows

    0.47pre1-1 Beta (Jul 22, 2009)

    Exceptional.

  5. Review - KeePass Password Safe Classic Edition

    1.16 (Jul 16, 2009)

A top piece of software, deeply impressive. Easy to use, very secure, a comprehensive range of security features, portable too...

So yep, a real winner. Means you can use very strong passwords (which the app can generate for you ) without having to remember them all.
