Wow, so this is what happened to Almer Backup ! Comodo bought it, tidied it up and re-released it for free.
Well as Ive been using and unstable Almer Backup for years now, Im going to try this and see if it has been stabilised.
7.0.9 (Jun 15, 2009)
Lack of built-in scheduler ruins this otherwise capable program.
Backup system slightly confusing and destination files stored in strangely named folders for no apparent reason.
2.3.2 (Jun 15, 2009)
It seems, like Backup4All, this program also only allows backup to zip files.
I find this incomprehensible. Zip should be an option and not laid down as the only backup method.
Sometimes people like to backup with no compression, straight files.
How on Earth do you do incremental backups with zips ? Just have loads of little zip files in your backup folder every night ?
Straight file copying please !! This should be the default method.

A good program, which Ive used for years now, but am seriously thinking of giving it up if I can find a half decent alternative.
Rule No.1: Don't use this if you are a gamer. I know you can have it on voice only, but thats hardly an answer to this problem.
The issue lies in that when a reminder window pops up, it always steals focus.
This can mean your game just got ruined (especially if you are online or your game is one that crashes when you do a task-switch).
Its happened to me one too many times now and I can't take it any more.
Its ruined my gaming enough times to make me want to drop this program. Its just not worth the hassle.
The other annoying thing is when you edit the markers, there is no option to tell it NOT to remind you if the program is a repeat. So combine that with the first annoyance and you have a potent combination.
Having said that Digiguide doesn't always pop its window up in front, sometiems it can do it in the background but not always and it is always a the most crucial time when it gets ya. Oh and yes, this is even with the option about taking focus, disabled. It just ignores it.
If you can deal with that crap, then get it, because apart from that which is a major issue imo, this program is very fully featured.
Its also in need of another update as it hasnt been touched in ages.
1.0 Beta (Oct 7, 2008)
er.. ok echohead, so how do I backup my IPhone if I don't use iTunes ? Don't you realise that if you have an IPhone they have you over a barrel when it comes to ITunes.

I still don't understand why they have a problem with people who WATCH illegal videos. They're there aren't they ? If you come across one, what are you supposed to do ? hit the 'back' button ?
And why are they concerned with people watching football highlights ? Theyre HIGHLIGHTS! It happened in the past, its history now. Who cares ?
Nabbing people for seeing illegal videos on a public video website is like jailing someone was seeing a murder in a street.

Looks like Google didnt manage to offer the judge as much money as Viacom did.
I dunno if its a case of full privacy or nothing.
I think in extreme cases of say criminal activity (child porn etc), computer data should be handed over to law enforcement. BUT... that should be something you would expect companies to do automatically when asked, and not be coaxed or taken to court in order to do so.
So I believe there are circumstances where it is necessary to breach a persons privacy. This is certainly not one of them.
This is just yet another example to prove that you have no rights at all. To quote the late, great George Carlin "Rights are not rights if someone can take them away just like that. Temporary privileges is all they are folks"

boe, yeah sorry man :)
We've just put in a new 2003 R2 and for a flashing moment I did wonder if to wait for 2008 Server.
But nah, I'm sure we made the right move in not doing so. Although I am interested in delving into virtualisation on 2008, its way to early to upgrade. Next year maybe.
But we have beta tested it and I did like what I saw of it.

"The problem lies in many of the old-guard management still around that are incredibly resistant to change."
Yep. This doesn't happen where I work, but I have seen this in other companies. People don't want to spend on IT and yet want everything smooth, quick and working at the same time.
Your 3 years philosophy is not a bad one. Definately wouldn't want to have it more than that. We do have a couple of computers over that age but they are kept because they are used for really minimal tasks and are not in constant use.

You're not far from wrong there as I had just woken up :)
