  1. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.01 Build 8552 (Aug 4, 2006)

Doesn't Yahoo Beta specifically block Opera?

I don't know what eclipsingdivinity means by "funky interface", as Opera looks just like any other browser to me.

And I don't know what crosscut's problem with forums is, as it doesn't happen to me. He has probably changed some setting somewhere. And no one ever said that crashes are due to site blocking Opera. Broken sites (as in not working) are usually due to blocking Opera or omitting the necessary parts of code to get it working.

And no one claimed that ALL sites are trying to block Opera. Just a lot of them.

Anyway, this fixes lots of problems, so thumbs up.

Most features from the Google Toolbar are possible to do in Opera, siryak! Try a search, or you could ask in the Opera forums.

Firefox is bloated and slow. Safari blows it out of the water. Also, Firefox fanboys are incredibly annoying.

  5. Review - Opera for Windows

    9.00 Build 8501 (Jun 23, 2006)

So my friend is a long time Opera user and he told me about the ad blocker in Opera 9... I'd grown weary of Firefox's bugs and incompatibilities so I thought I'd give Opera a go.

'Big mistake' I thought when I read the reviews on this site, but the funny thing is that I really don't recognize myself in any of the one-point ratings. I mean seriously, a one-point rating would mean that Opera is completely unusable and probably the worst program there is. But that is certainly not the case. Even if you are a huge Firefox fan you have to recognize Opera's strengths, such as small size, speed, and also being more secure than even Firefox. Even if you prefer something else over Opera doesn't mean that Opera is useless!

Now that I've dumped Firefox I wouldn't give it a rating of one just because I found something better. I'd give it a 3, due to it being slow and unstable, and my extensions keep breaking.

Now, if the lowest rating cannot be justified, how can I justify giving Opera a 'perfect' score? Simple. It fits my needs perfectly. It starts quickly, operates quickly, and has loads of nice features like mouse gestures, saving sessions, etc. And the cool thing is that these features keep working when you upgrade Opera, unlike Firefox extensions...

Anyway, maybe Opera isn't perfect for everyone, but to me it's the best there is. I'll be damned if I let some silly Opera bashing by Firefox fans (I used to be one, and I must admit that I used to bash Opera before I actually gave it a proper go) convince me that I should stop using Opera and go back to Firefox.

  6. Comment - Opera Browser Gets Fraud Protection

    9.00 Build 8501 (Oct 19, 2006 - 8:23 AM)

Uh yes, you CAN disable it completely. But it also allows you to visit the site anyway, as the screenshots clearly show. And it doesn't report "every page". It looks up just the domain name, and it only needs to do so once. It doesn't report back every time you visit.
