  1. Comment - Apple using scare tactics to stop iPhone jailbreaking from becoming legal

    (Jul 30, 2009 - 11:17 AM)

This whole debate is no different than GM's "Built-in obsolesence" for automobiles which is now instituted by all automakers. Cars are designed to operate properly for a certain amount of time then WHAMMO! Ever wonder why after one or two repairs, the rest of the car seems to also go to hell at the same time requiring you to get a new one?

Hell, I still remember my first car, a 68 Cutlass Supreme. I bought in 1979. The guy I bought it from told me I'd be lucky to get six months out of it. That car ran for ten years. I put an additional 350,000 miles on it and all I had to do was chage the oil and tune it up once in a while. Try that with a car manufactured today.

  2. Comment - Recording artists claim their music is being boycotted over royalties

    (Jun 10, 2009 - 10:00 PM)

The statement about wanting to take care of their chidren and so on into the future was true with film and TV actors until yesterday. The SAG voted yes on a contract that basically gives up their right to the use of their own image, less money paid for internet streaming of their shows or movies and less for internet creted content that they appear in. Any hope of maintaining more than their current bills and morgages have just evaporated with the acceptance of the worst contract in SAG history.

If the recording artists were in a union they'd be taking one up the backside about now just like every other union in Hollywood and New York.

His second film was "Heaven's Gate."

  4. Comment - Behind the first live 3D bowl game at CES

    (Jan 12, 2009 - 8:04 AM)

That would be rather difficult as someone with only one eye has no depth perception. While there might be some fancy tech that could eventually display the image with no glasses of any kind, 3D involves being able to see an image from two different angles. Even if it was nothing fancier then s***ing the image, the person with only one eye would see a flat image, not one with 3D depth.

  5. Comment - The Dark Knight may yet save Blu-ray from the lair of the PS3

    (Dec 23, 2008 - 8:09 AM)

Speaking from a consumer point of view, I don't want a device that constantly requires firmware updates every time a new movie with fancy features on the disc requires an update to operate. I don't have to download or have updates mailed to me on my DVD player.

I want to plug it in and be able to watch anything I purchase. Too much hassle and considering how the majority of the population isn't tech savvy in any way shape or form its a reciepe for serious dissatisfaction.

The other issue as I see it... DVD players come with all the cords you need to plug the device in and hook it up. BR players come with a power cord. Look forward to dropping between $50 and $100 to buy the cords needed to hook the darn thing up to your television. What a load of crap. Let's make it a real pain in the a** for anyone to take the stupid thing out of the box and use it immediately without making another run back to the store for a stupid cable.
