  1. Comment - Symantec Sues Microsoft Over Vista

    (May 22, 2006 - 8:41 AM)

Symantec will have too much software to look after soon... they might have to start selling off bits... it is a pitty they ruined the name Nortons which back in the days refered to a fantastic product. Now its crappy bloatware and cripples computers rather than aiding them with any type of beneficial applicaion. Maybe they could make a Nortons benchmark utility they certainly know how to consume system resources.

Hell Symantec wake up $2.5B a year not enough Revenue? invest some money back into the proucts you aquire an cease ruining their once trusted names.

  2. Comment - Vista Beta Offers Peek at Aero Interface

    (Jul 27, 2005 - 8:51 PM)

Whilst most users dont like change, I embrace change with an open mind. The Aero interface was designed for a reason and it wasnt to designed to make things worse.

If users could get with the times and understand that the changes have a purpose they would be much better off. The old windows shell dating back to 95 is cumbersome, annoying & restricted. The New aero seems to be very slick and managable, also it appears to be most efficient and timesaving.

Also note aero would be half wasted for users who prefer to maximize every window. The concept of maximizing windows defeats the purpose of windows as it is a window!

I'd suggest the negative people out there learn to use the windows shell how it was designed to be used and stop being such idiots when it comes to change for the better of computing.

You are making the betanews community look stupid.

  3. Comment - Microsoft Completes Office XP SP1

    (Dec 10, 2001 - 7:26 PM)

Having Office XP running on my clients workstations i have been told about many bugs/problems that occur in the use of Word, outlook and Excel. I look forward to seeing this service pack as it should hopefully fix these minor problems that cause me the trouble of rectifying across multiple computers. As for the activation well lets hope they fixed it also. There is nothing worse than activating a whole network of PC's with a per seat based licence, when there is no access to the internet.

  4. Comment - Pre-Order Windows XP

    (Sep 10, 2001 - 6:36 AM)

Its quite funny you say that windows Xp isnt that good. I've been using it since beta 3 and i believe that it is the best version of windows yet. they have finally taken a step to letting go of backwards compatability. I admit that Xp is really only good for the new computer buyer having quite high requirements to run at its best perfomance. As for stability, I find it quite stable. It is a lot faster booting than win2k installation is fast also. what i like most is that base support for new hardware. Something the older versions of windows lack, Support for newer hardware straight from isntall. This makes installations easier.

The interface change is certainly a long waited change. Before XP i found myself running shell replacements to better the user experience and gain more functionality. Its the small things like the automatice hiding of unused tray icons, the more personalised start menu, the abilty to lock items in place aswell as remove icons from the desktop.

WMP8 actually plays back DVD's its not the best player but it means you dont need to load up your system with software its allready there.

I can see hundreds of new things added that are an improvement from windows 2000 and other versions of windows, From both a homeuser and corporate user POV.

Some people dont like change which is fair enough, but i prefer keeping with the times, and getting out of my computer as much as i can. I cant find a bad point about XP that i dont like, apart from fact you cant use the new welcome screen to log onto a domain. Small price to pay really when you think about it.

Your own ignorance is no excuse to say something is bad when you dont have the user knowledge of something. Who do you think is more scared of the other? Microsoft or Linux Distributors? Microsoft of course.. because they are the ones hiding their source code because they would be nothing if they handed it out. And its the Market that decides what is the most popular OS. I'd run linux on all my servers and workstations if the market would get the microsoft monkey off their backs, and let linux get on top.

I'd write my own OS if i could, because truthfully they will never be good enough for everyone.

  5. Comment - XP RTM Closes In, September Debut Possible

    (Aug 13, 2001 - 8:36 AM)

Windows XP is just a new version of windows.. whether you use it or not is a personal choice, from my experience Windows XP actually runs quite fast, there are several bugs, but hell in over 50 million lines of code that make up windows, how can one make that etirely error free. Operating systems have their place and in some cases one may be a much better solution than the other, also cost can have a lot to do with it. As for corporate OS's to try change from NT to say linux would be quite hard when there are specific applications that companies use that are only supported by windows. Ie: accounting software, reference libraries for information, calculators. all of which could be made to run under linux but at what cost? even though linux does fall under GNU licencing nobody is going to sit there and write software for free if they will se no real benefit from it. So till the time comes windows will continue to own linux in that department. linux as a server, web server, database yes but the line gets drawn around about there. Someone mantioned the long time it takes to set up apache as opposed to IIS *couch* well i cant remember the last time it took me longer than a few minutes to set up apache. a precompiled binary is extracted placed int the right spot and then you run the config which you can accept the defaults.. overall you could get the same reults in the same time fram with both apache and IIS, though it helps to have a clue. What i would like to see is some of windows code leaked to somone who can utilise it. develop a few linux libs to enable running win32 based applications. I think MS would get a little worried then and i might then consider installing it on my workstation.
